Do you know the answer to this puzzle?
INTRO CLIP (10/7/98): Anthony Harkless bounces around after winning $25K in the Bonus Round.
S17, EPISODE #3184: WINTER SPORTS
Airdate: 12/2/99
SMASHDADDLE, Pat? Really? Well, to be honest, I was stumped on this one too - it was FLASHDANCE.
Now let's meet Thursday's contestants:
Kevin Waldron: San Francisco (orig. from Long Island, NY). Project coordinator for the U.S. government (he relocates federal agencies and recently moved all the tenants in the Sacramento courthouse). Enjoys sports (especially watching ice hockey), working out and playing bridge.
Melissa Slotwinski: Boynton Beach, FL (orig. from Chicagoland area; attended Columbia College). Grad student at Nova Southeastern University for occupational therapy (she's interested in using pets to help persons in therapy).
Melissa Moore: Cinnaminson, NJ (Philly area). Major sign company worker in Bristol, PA and an engineering assistant. She went to Rutgers University and also loves the outdoors.
Well, Pat's right in saying that unlike its sister show (Jeopardy!), you don't win a chair if you place 2nd.
PERFECTION! I'm sure Kevin remembers THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW, but can he turn that 3 into a 6 with the following puzzle?
OPIE is his only guess. It was the barber FLOYD.
1ST PRIZE ADDED TO WHEEL: ski vacation in Mammoth Mountain, CA (marked MAMMOTH, $3,612)
Melissa M FINALLY solves NO STARCH, CLAIM CHECK, SAME DAY SERVICE for all of that hard-earned cash! But she's wrong thinking we're at the laundromat. It's the Dry Cleaners.
BANKRUPT: Melissa S
DQ: Melissa M's S repeat
2ND PRIZE ADDED TO WHEEL: Arachnid electronic dart game + American Foosball table (marked GAME ROOM, $2,749)
JACKPOT ROUND
Kevin solves I KNOW HIM LIKE A BOOK to keep the ski holiday.
LOSE A TURN: Melissa M
LEFT BEHIND IN POT: $7,900
Once again, the show doesn't know how to manage time. Pat spins for $1,300 consonants.
Melissa S escapes the land of parting gifts with DRILL & BENCH PRESS.
DUDS: T (Kevin), M (Melissa S)
FINAL SCORES
WINNINGS SO FAR: $31,012
NO BANKRUPT TRASH!
BONUS ROUND
LETTER PICKED: second E
RSTLNE gives Melissa S the ending:
PHCA reveals a hot consonant...
And just like that, Melissa S gets PUPPET for the $25,000! A guy named Randy joins the celebration
MELISSA S'S FINAL TOTAL: $44,250 (all cash)
Vanna says that Pat's judgement of J! is too harsh. Then again, both shows are produced by Harry Friedman, but he loves the hosts of this show more than Alex (but we all know damn well that's a lie). Also, Pat was thinking about Regis' "Phone a Friend" (Millionaire teas).
Full credit roll in the end.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Hey, we actually get something really exciting from the maingame this week! Add the fact that nothing was lost to the black space and another Bonus Round success and this is just an all-around great episode worth an 8/10.
Did we go 5-0?
