Because the infamous WBZ in Boston pre-empts Wheel so often, probably more than any other affiliate, I often watch it on WPRI out of Providence. They pre-empt a lot less frequently, but they start Wheel (and Jeopardy!) almost a whole minute early. If you DVR the show, this can be a problem. Someone complained about it happening with Jeopardy! This started about a year ago when they switched to one lottery drawing per night. They used to air the daily number right before Wheel, and on the nights they had it, Wild Money right before Jeopardy! But now, the 2 drawings are now squished into one segment, which airs every night right before Jeopardy! But this means that they start Wheel a minute earlier, when the lottery drawing used to start. Weekend airings are not affected, and start on time. Is this the case with any other affiliates, where they start early or late?

Dallas KTVT airs Wheel about a minute early as well.

Dallas is the worst offender of this by far. KTVT usually starts Wheel around 6:27 PM Central. It begins immediately after the 6:00 news signs off. Since J! airs at 6:00 on KTXA, the final result of J! and TU1 of Wheel often overlap, and if you DVR Wheel, the first Toss-Up usually gets cut off. For those of you who know the Paramount+ trick, try it with Dallas and go to the stream at 7:30 exactly, and chances are it will be on the interviews or the $2,000 Toss-Up. I tuned into the stream at 6:29 once and even then I had missed TU1. And the stream is at least a good 30 seconds behind the over-the-air feed. When CBS pads Saturday college football to sign off at 7:30 Eastern, KTVT always abruptly cuts to Wheel mid-interviews.
KHOU in Houston airs some commercials between their news and Wheel, but it still usually starts at 6:29.
WWMT in Grand Rapids, Michigan starts Wheel around 6:59 Eastern. They only air a brief local news bumper after the end of CBS Evening News, then straight into Wheel.
WABC New York used to start Wheel at 7:29 for years. As of a few years ago, they now start it at 7:30 on the dot. However, when J! and WOF are both pre-empted and bumped to 3:05-4:00 AM, Wheel is listed to start at 3:35, but actually starts at 3:30ish, so DVR recordings of these airings usually start shortly into R1.
WTNH in Connecticut almost-always starts weekday episodes of Wheel at 7:30 exactly, though weekend airings tend to start one minute early.

^ WLS does indeed. When my DVR is set for the show, it chops off the intro, first Toss-Up, and part of the contestant interviews, making me have to record the news program right before. Funny it doesn't do that for Jeopardy! thoe.

^ That's probably because J! doesn't follow local news on WLS. This is mostly a problem on stations that schedule Wheel immediately after local or national news. And even if they did do that with J!, I doubt you'd lose any gameplay, since the first clue doesn't usually start until at least 60 seconds into the episode, whereas Wheel's first Toss-Up usually starts no more than 45 seconds into the episode. Does your DVR not give you the option to start the recording X minutes early? See if you have a "Record Options" setting.

As someone who uses the DirecTV Stream app through a Roku device, I looked for that option through every way I could possibly think of without any luck. Preferences offer very few options which don't include what you showed, and the only choices I have when recording episodes are to record and cancel them.

Speaking of preemptions, when I was a kid growing up, I've always hated it when my local affiliate KAIT-TV here in Jonesboro, Arkansas preempted Wheel of Fortune for some clumsy special hosted by one of our major hospitals. That's when I would switch over to WMC-TV out of Memphis to watch it. Sometimes, because my mother didn't have cable to pick up WMC-TV, I would rush over to my Grandmother's house to watch it from there. In any case, it worked out perfectly!
Of course, in my earlier days of life with my Grandmother, I believe WMC-TV was where we would originally watch Wheel of Fortune (& Jeopardy!).

WXIA Atlanta now starts Wheel early as well. I caught it on there last Friday and yesterday, and in both cases, after Lester Holt signed off from NBC Nightly News, a five-second NBC News bumper aired, then Wheel immediately started with no commercials in between at about 6:59. Not sure when this started, but several of Christian Dixie's S38 recordings come from WXIA. Last season, they did run commercials and started Wheel at 7:00. What makes this obvious is that the "WXIA-TV ATLANTA" caption that appears at the top of every hour now does not appear during Wheel until after TU1 is solved, showcasing that missing a mere 60 seconds of Wheel usually makes you miss the first piece of gameplay.
