Happy New Year, everyone! For the first official week of Jan. '21, I'll look at a couple of "Wheel Into 19XX Weeks". I'll focus on "Wheel Into 1999" first.
S16, EPISODE #3006: WHEEL INTO 1999
Airdate: 12/28/98
Today's contestants:
Jim Kilar: Pittsburgh. 1st grade teacher at Bradford Woods ES and for the North Allegheny School District who's married to Shelly with 3 daughters (and has an identical twin named Jeff).
Marlowe Weeks (female): Houston. Geophysical technician (they try and predict that there are hydrocarbons in certain regions before oil companies drill a well) who's married with 2 sons.
Erika Olson: North Hollywood (orig. from Sweden). Student studying fashion design and pursuing her Master's in Business Administration. She was also on the Swedish badmition team.
Wipe is a star.
Marlowe solves COSTUME DESIGNER. Now for a chance to turn a 1 into a 4...
She immediately gets SEQUINS.
DUDS: H (Jim), K (Erika), L (Jim)
BANKRUPT: Marlowe
1ST PRIZE ADDED TO WHEEL: his/her Jaguar Festina WATCHES ($2,790)
Jim solves ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH-HEEL SHOES. Unlike his twin brother, he does have a scar.
DUD: D (Jim)
BANKRUPTS: 4 (two by each lady)
2ND PRIZE ADDED TO WHEEL: a week's stay at the Renaissance NY Hotel via American Airlines + tickets to "Ragtime" (marked BROADWAY), $6,770
JACKPOT ROUND
SPONSOR: Hasbro Interactive
The Ford Thunderbird is an example of a VINTAGE AUTOMOBILE and Jim gets the house minimum.
DUDS: R (Erika), S (Jim), K (Erika), D (Marlowe), F (Erika)
BANKRUPTS: 2 (non-Erikas)
LEFT BEHIND IN POT: $8,850
We ran a bit over on time, so it's up to Pat to give the last spin of the day. Consonants are worth...well, it slipped from the biggie at the last second, so we'll settle for $600 apiece.
TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, Marlowe beats the buzzer and will advance to Bonus Land.
DUDS: D (Marlowe), C (Jim)
FINAL SCORES
WINNINGS SO FAR: $10,300
BANKRUPT TRASH: $6,940
BONUS ROUND
PRIZES
1999 BMW Z3 w/ Harmon Kardon sound system ($39K+)
1999 INFINITI QX4 SUV ($37K+)
trip to New Zealand and Hawaii ($15K+)
1999 INFINITI G20t ($24K+)
$25,000 (exactly what it says)
LETTER PICKED: W (for her last name)
RSTLNE gives Marlowe a healthy start:
Hint: Pat did this at the start of R4.
GCDO...comes up empty. SIGNAL SHIP, PARTY, SPOON and PANEL are all way off. Since she didn't remember the FINAL SPIN, there goes the BMW Z3.
MARLOWE'S FINAL TOTAL: $5,900 (all cash)
1999 starts Friday. The hosts can't believe it!
OVERALL THOUGHTS: This was a rather quiet start to the week with absolutely nothing to stand out. Also, that BR should've been an easy one. 4/10
