Opener
First off, happy birthday to jakemathis4520 ! I'll be continuing my NFL journey and go to the S16 edition of that week (which actually aired 3 years before he was born; this was actually the final week to use the Friday Finals believe it or not). This week has a unique audience setup.
S16, EPISODE #3027: NFL PLAYERS WEEK
Airdate: 1/26/99
Tuesday has female civilians (the football stars have football shaped name tags):
Amanda Leslie & Ed McCaffrey: Amanda's from Grand Junction while Ed's from the Denver Broncos.
Jill Maltrud & Robert Smith: Jill's from Atlanta while Robert's from the Minnesota Vikings.
Sylvia Floyd & Keenan McCardell: Keenan's from the Jacksonville Jaguars.
PERFECTION! Amanda solves SPORTS AGENT and there's a brief snippet of an NFL game on the PS1 right after (just for the first 2 rounds).
Amanda's a senior at Mesa State College studying history (and a Broncos fan since she was a little girl). Ed, the wide receiver (his team is undefeated by the time of taping), is playing
1ST PRIZE ADDED TO WHEEL: Oxford bumper pool table from Beach Manufacturing and a Dynamo foosball table from American Foosball Association (marked GAME ROOM), $3,860
Jill solves FIRST-ROUND DRAFT PICK. Now to turn one of those 1's into a 4...
CONTRACT is correct!
DUDS: E (Sylvia/Keenan)
BANKRUPT: Jill/Robert
Jill originally grew up in Detroit Lakes, MN and is an associate producer for a major news network (CNN maybe? IDK). Robert's playing for the Children's Hospital and Clinics and Foundation in Minneapolis as well as the Children's Hospital Foundation in Columbus.
Also, Bill Romanowski of the Broncos takes us to commercial.
Viewers could also win a trip to the Pro Bowl in Hawaii this week.
2ND PRIZE ADDED TO WHEEL: trip to Copper Mountain Resort in Colorado + priv. snowboarding lessons by the National champions the Delaney brothers from RPMC (marked Snowboarding), $7,696
JACKPOT ROUND
SPONSOR: Boost
Due to strong spins from the football players, the JACKPOT seems to come loose and cover a bit of the $250 next to it.
Ed solves CELEBRITY ENDORSMENTS to tie with the yellow team.
BANKRUPT: Sylvia/Keenan
LEFT BEHIND IN POT: $13,300
Sylvia is an adjunct professor at FSCJ where she teaches childcare training courses. Keenan, the wide receiver and first Jaguar voted to go to the Pro Bowl, is playing for the Touching Hands Foundation.
Unfortunately, time seems to be nonexistent here as Pat must give it a Final Spin here. Each consonant is worth $600.
No time to HIT THE SHOWERS, Amanda, you win!
FINAL SCORES
All football stars get the $10,000 minimum this week.
WINNINGS SO FAR: $11,200
BANKRUPT TRASH: $13,250
BONUS ROUND
I do know that a Camaro is up for grabs. Don't know about the other 2, though...
LETTER PICKED (Ed): second E
RSTLNE gives three to start:
Wipe is a football.
DMHI gives three more...
Amanda's a bit short with RUSHING IT, so they aren't ROUGHING IT to win the $25,000. Pat threw away the envelope in the end (accompanied with a sound effect).
FINAL TOTAL FOR AMANDA/ED: $7,100 (all cash; $10K for Ed; ineligible for Final)
OVERALL THOUGHTS: My favorite part about this was the tie after R3, so it made the final round somewhat exciting. A fine game strategy-wise, but not much luck with the winnings either. 5/10
