Someone who attended a taping can clarify otherwise, but this theme isn’t going to be used in S39. Davo said it was an alternate version that bleeding fingers cut. But consider another scenario possibly playing out, similar to what happened during Season 25. It's possible they use the regular show version for the first month of the new season and then switch to the guitar version in October. You probably remember in S25, they used a rough draft of the main theme alongside the leaky faucet think music, and come October 2008, they switched to different recordings (which eventually became the final versions in the Chris Bell package).

Just in - the guitar theme is being used on Celebrity Jeopardy! So maybe it will carry over later this season.

^ I also got it right. Honestly not even close to the most obscure J! content I’ve seen.

Well, it started yesterday, but the "first to 3" is finally coming into play on a syndicated tournament. Between "Team Steve Martin Sam", "Team Andrew", and "Team Amy", I'm rooting for Amy to win. She already has 1 point, while Andrew also has a point.
UPDATE: Andrew has won a second game.
UPDATE #2: Amy has won a second game. Sam has some work to do.
UPDATE #3: ...Amy underwagered. Somewhat justifiable, but now Sam has won one game.

It's all over, and Amy is the tournament winner!

Assuming she still lives in the Bay Area, ironic that the day she wins is the day she's pre-empted in her own city because of MNF and KGO having first dibs on 49ers games.

Now that it's over, I've been thinking. There was a little discussion on the JBoard about the top prizes were unchanged, so...
A normal Tournament of Champions awards what would average at $49,000 per show (6 each of $5K and $10K consolation, and the $50K/$100K/$250K for the finals). This tournament averages a maximum of $40,000 per show on a 3-game final, or $30,588 per show on a 7-game final. Throw in some other stats, and...
$146,000 (6 regular play games averaging $21,333 wins in the 2019-20 season with $1K/$2K consolation prizes) $490,000 (Old Tournament of Champions: $5K/$10K consolation plus $50K/$100K/$250K prizes) $265,000 (Other tournaments: $5K/$10K consolation plus $25K/$50K/$100K prizes) $901,000 over 26 shows Or... $148,000 (2 weeks with $1K/$2K consolation and $10K/$20K/$35K prizes) $520,000 (New Tournament of Champions with 6-day finals: $5K/$10K consolation plus $50K/$100K/$250K prizes) $668,000 over 26 shows Assuming the Second Chance tournament replaces one of the other tournaments, I think they could've taken chances with a $500,000 top prize instead.

Second Chance isn’t replacing anything, it’s always going to precede the TOC as it’s own separate entity so there’s no real chance it replaces any of the other tournaments. J!NCC is intended to be annual and there’s a good chance of another professors tournament, it seems relatively easy to cast. There have also been discussions with Michael Davies about rebranding the teen tournament as a high schoolers week.

In that case, reduce the $265,000 to $243,330 for 10 shows (the length of a normal tournament), as we're still filling in space that would otherwise be regular gameplay. That would make the purple number $879,330 instead of $901,000. Still well above the $668,000 awarded over the past 5 weeks and 1 day, and maybe worth the extra $250K.

This might be a bit late...though the article itself was over an hour late considering how early the Final Jeopardy! results are posted on JBoard. I guess this is why Mike Davies might come up with different ideas for tournaments. Returning to the aforementioned $25K/$50K/$100K top prizes, it caps the winnings average at $26,500 per day (equivalent to crowning a champion with $23,500, well below Cris Pannullo's $35,632 per day average).
Not to mention that these tournaments are generally gonna be an excuse to qualify someone for the Tournament of Champions.
For now, however, I've just been assuming there will be close to the usual number of regular games, minus six shows for how long the new ToC dragged on.
(Also not too important, but I surprised myself be getting two consecutive FJ! Triple Stumpers right, when I thought an earlier one would be the only time.)

I wonder what will come for the second half of the season. I'm looking foward to hearing about the new tournaments the show has in mind. I hope it will become clear in the next few weeks.

Sorry for the bump, but the hosting schedule for the remainder of Season 39 was announced on yesterday's Inside Jeopardy! podcast. Ken will come back next Friday, March 10, and will host through Friday, April 28. After that, Mayim will host through the season finale in July.
