Wheel is in the mix for Outstanding Game Show and Outstanding Lighting Direction, while Pat has been nominated twice in the same category for Outstanding Game Show Host ( Wheel and CWOF). I can't say that I recall a time in which the latter scenario has taken place in the past. Edit: Forgot the link to the list of nominations- deadline.com/2022/05/daytime-emmy-nominations-2022-list-1235016996/

The latter scenario did take place in 1990 and 1991 when Alex was nominated for both Jeopardy! and Classic Concentration.
And congrats to Wheel and Pat for the nominations!

In 1990 and 1991, Trebek was nominated for both Classic Concentration and Jeopardy, so it isn't unprecedented, but I'm shocked Pat Sajak got nominated twice. This feels like the Academy couldn't figure out whether to give the hosting nomination to Ken or Mayim, so they went with a weird middle-ground pick with neither.

I guess it's unprecedented in the sense that it's the same host for essentially the same show nominated twice, although this isn't the case purely on a technicality. And sorry for the snipe post, woffan.

Daytime Emmys were last night and unfortunately Wheel did not win in any of its categories, losing out to Jeopardy for Outstanding Game Show (11/30/21, Amy Schneider's 10th game), Family Feud for Outstanding Game Show Host (2/25/21), and The Kelly Clarkson Show for Outstanding Lighting Direction (7/6/21).
I did discover that the Wheel episodes submitted for consideration were. Outstanding Game Show was December 9, 2021 (Secret Santa 4 with Amber/Erick/Phyllis), Host was September 24, 2021 (Pam/Renee/Jacob), Lighting Direction was March 29, 2021 (Debbie/Joe/Danielle), and the Celebrity episode was the premiere, January 7, 2021 with Leslie Jones/Chandra Wilson/Tony Hawk.
Congrats to all the winners and nominees in this year's categories. Michael Davies came up and spoke during Jeopardy's win. He did mention and thank Wheel in his speech.

I honestly think Wheel's Emmy days are over. It's great that it's at least getting more nominations than it was in the last few years of the Friedman era, but it says a lot that its only win in the past several years was in a tie with the show that always wins and only to tie into a Lifetime Achievement Award. This was the one year Wheel really had a chance. Sony took advantage of the fact that no J! host was eligible this year by giving Pat that second slot that would normally go to the J! host, but who's to say next year, assuming Ken becomes permanent syndie J! host and Mayim hosts CJ! or J!NCC, that they both get nominations in the host category next year? The Emmys committee just doesn't like Wheel, and Pat's bad rep over the past couple of years made it no surprise he was passed over. The best case scenario I see happening is Pat's successor winning during their first eligible year, but I really doubt the show itself will ever win again, at least not without a tie with the sister show.

I honestly thought Wheel would at least win the Game Show Host category since Pat was nominated for both the syndicated and celebrity versions. But I'm not surprised that Steve Harvey won that award; the clip that Family Feud submitted was hilarious.

Sony took advantage of the fact that no J! host was eligible this year by giving Pat that second slot that would normally go to the J! host, There are several things I want to say about this post, but at the very least, this is factually wrong. The criteria for the award is having hosted 19% of the shows that calendar year; both Ken and Mayim were eligible. My personal theory is that either Sony or the Emmys didn’t want to deal with picking one or the other, so either party could have just decided to acknowledge Sony again with Pat without picking a side. In reality, who knows what happened? It’s not like Pat was guaranteed another spot either, when technically Meredith Vieira, Jay Leno, or anyone else at GSN were in the running.
