In an unexpected move, starting July 4, Pittsburgh NBC affiliate WPXI 11 will be switching the time slots for Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune after decades of airing them in the more popular order of Jeopardy!-then-Wheel. Starting that day, Wheel will now air at 7:00 PM Eastern instead of 7:30. This will presumably apply to Saturdays as well, as WPXI has been airing this promo during all recent airings of at least Wheel, including on Saturdays, when this video was taken.
This may be a positive change for Wheel in this market. Previously, Wheel would always get pre-empted on WPXI during the Summer and Winter Olympics and move to its cable sister channel, Pittsburgh Cable News Channel. The Saturday reruns also would get moved to 4:00 AM during NFL season due to local Steelers program The Jerome Bettis Show. It is not yet known how WPXI will handle these programs pre-empting Jeopardy!; they may do what some stations (such as WDIV in Detroit and WTHR in Indianapolis) do and move J! back to 7:00 to replace Wheel, but I guess we'll find out in September or during the 2024 Olympics.
WPXI has not given a reason why they're swapping the shows after decades. Most antennas and even some cable providers in the Pittsburgh market also carry neighboring station WTOV from Steubenville, Ohio, which airs J! at 7:00 and Wheel at 7:30, so fans who get both stations can now watch Wheel in either time slot.

Unfortunately, that is exactly what they will be doing. Wheel will continue to get the "second banana" treatment. Starting September 10, on Saturdays during NFL season, Jeopardy! will air in its former 7:00 slot, The Jerome Bettis Show will air at 7:30, and Wheel gets relegated to 4:30 AM Saturday morning. I imagine during the Olympics, J! will also move to 7:00 and Wheel will get bumped to Pittsburgh Cable News Channel as usual, rather than keep Wheel in its rightful spot. What a shame. I get doing this on the weekdays for champions' sake, but why on Saturdays?
