Hello everyone!
For those who have appeared on Wheel of Fortune, what advice would you give for prospective contestants?
Advice on letter picking? Advice on spinning the wheel? Advice for dealing with the lights/cameras? Advice for specific categories?
Thanks!
Hello there! My episode is airing nationwide today, 11-24-22
Prospective contestants: Have fun! If it’s clear you’re only in it for money, fame, or because you’re a superfan, they won’t pick you in auditions. Be a good sport and enjoy the opportunity. People have a 0.0006% of being selected as a contestant so if you’re given that opportunity, celebrate and make it a great memory!
Letter picking: RSTLNE as usual but also ING, AND, TH, OF, and LY are good letter combos to look for in words
Spinning the wheel: It’s heavier than it looks. Pull from the right towards you and push away towards the left. Left-handed players are given specific spinning strategies by the team
Lights/cameras: I remember the room being very orange/greenish and so the board can be a bit hard to see. Prepare for things to look much different in real life. Almost cartoon-ish. The board is a BRIGHT almost neon-green, haha. As for nerves, I just got in my bubble and remembered that it wasn’t actually live on tv.
Specific categories:
PROPER NAME: Don’t forget sports teams! This is usually celebrities but can be something sneaky like “Chicago Bears”
WHAT ARE YOU DOING?: Always an action, ends in ING
COLLEGE LIFE: Think fraternity/sorority, studying, cramming, homework, etc
PHRASE and THING: Can be almost anything on the face of the earth, some of the hardest categories.
IN THE KITCHEN: Usually an appliance of some sort, but not always
WHAT ARE YOU WEARING: Often this is attached to an adjective or other descriptive word, such as “Sparkly dress” or “Leather jacket”. Very rarely just something like “Tennis shoes”
