From Hollywood, It's America's game! Wheeeeeel Of Fortune!
Today's contestants:
Richard Mosier: Building contractor and project manager, from Tarp0n Springs, FL
Betty Baime (returning with a 2-day total of $54,145)
Jerry Pathardi: Performer/payroll clerk "waiting for that big moment", from New York
The top-dollar value on the Wheel is $1,000. We are playing for cash, and here's our first puzzle:
Jerry solves LAURA & BRUCE DERN.
In case our crew was a little late to add the $3,500 and one-third $10,000 spaces to the Wheel, we can just edit them into the broadcast.
Richard solves ENGAGEMENT RING AROUND THE COLLAR.
Still gathered around the Wheel, any one of these contestants would love to hit the $5,000 space. We think one of them might also want a DINE prize, whatever that is.
DING DING! DING DING!
Betty: H ($650)
Betty solves SEVEN NIGHTS A WEEK.
Betty leaves with a 3-day total of $54,795.
BONUS ROUND:
RSTLNE gives him:

Why would Betty want to retire undefeated without at least picking up a Wheel prize? She ought to win a Croton 14-karat gold man's quartz watch with 0.5-karat diamond bezel (labeled WATCH) worth $5,200!
She's had a taste of the $2,500 space before. Maybe this time, she'll find a better letter.

Richard solves ED SULLIVAN THEATER IN NEW YORK.
Hold on a minute! He can take a $1,000 bonus by answering one question:
Whose show now emanates from this theater?
He answers David Letterman ...but he was about a millisecond too late. Pat mistakes this for a normal bonus and says Betty gets a chance, but this is only a one shot bonus.
We'll still check the tape to confirm whether or not he made it in time.

Not much further. He says LOWER, LEVER, LOUD, and LONER. The buzzer sounds under 9.5 seconds in, though he still wouldn't have solved LOGIC...
...and that was nowhere near enough help to get a home improvement package. Richard stays at $9,750 in cash, but he'll be coming back again.
In the post-game, we get to hear more about the calls for the Red, White & Blue Sweepstakes. Some calls went well, but others?
1. Pat was ready to call Susan Zivich to award a Ford Explorer Limited, but she wasn't there. Someone else was there to take a message. Pat can only say "Um, gee. Uh, golly. Uh..."
2. Another call was for Carol Anderson to award an Alaskan Cruise. The busy signal was all we needed to hear.
3. Next was Nancy Berkheiser for the Alaskan Cruise. No answer at all.
4. Helen Bowman is called for the Alaskan Cruise. Those three beeps tell Pat that the phone number is invalid.
5. Lastly, he reaches Jerry Bondurant to award the Alaskan Cruise. He picks up, Pat asks if he's okay with his voice being put on the air. *CLICK*
