This might be a hot take, but this was far and away the best XL episode of the season thus far, at least from a gameplay standpoint.

That R1 was one of the most exciting in ages, genuinely big money and a lengthy puzzle really helped contribute.

The XL wedge really proved exciting tonight and I’m sure if Lindsey were a bit more gutsy and didn’t go bankrupt in R3, we really could’ve seen the comeback of the century. At least from what I remember, this is the first time one person has hit the XL wedge twice. Glad to see it operates under the MW/MDW rules for better or worse.

To top it all off we get a season-high maingame win and an easy BR with six figures broken the hard way even without the XL!

I don't think I've ever seen anybody win $30,000 in Round 1 alone. The rest of the game was more normal, although for a short Crossword, $4,500 was actually good.

Round 3 was the low point of the show, other than the gooseegg from April of course.

I needed Mike's picks to solve the bonus puzzle. BARGING actually fit, though I never thought of that. Anyway, it's another "$100K the hard way" finish!

R3 was a bit rough, but that’s the norm for the show nowadays.

BR: Had it off RSTLNE (with a backup answer to go along if my senses were incorrect). Nice to finally see a win under that category.

The last time that happened was way back in 2007. And thank goodness the light bulb went off for Mike in that round – there was virtually no stopping him after that. It would’ve been even better had he picked up the XL wedge, but breaking $100K the hard way is always nice to see! 👏🏾

Good thing Lindsey earned some dough, and I was hoping April would do the same…

I would’ve flubbed Round 2 with POKER.
