Kel Mitchell is an alum on Kenan & Kel and All That. He loves putting a smile on people's faces. He's got a devotional book out. He's playing for Boys & Girls Clubs of America, a company whose after-school programs inspired him.
Kim Fields is an actress, director, and producer. She's directed nearly 200 episodes, but she started with Kenan & Kel. She admits she's a crew baby, which got her interested in making the magic instead of playing. Since 2017, runs a coffee & tea company called Signature Blends by KF. She's playing for Back On My Feet, a company that disrupts homelessness using fitness, education, and employment education.
Penn Jillette is well known for Penn & Teller. He's been told that he's not supposed to cheat, so he can't use magic. He runs the longest-running show in the history of Las Vegas. In honor of Gilbert Gottfried, who passed away because of type 2 myotonic dystrophy, he's playing for the University of Rochester, a university setting up a fund so people don't pass away in the same way.

My inner 90s kid was excited to see Kel on tonight, and to hear Kenan & Kel and All That mentioned plus Kel doing his Ed from Good Burger routine. Having Kim Fields on with her Kenan & Kel connection was great too and I've always loved Penn and Teller also.

Again with the repeating words in puzzles, and now it happened in the bonus round tonight also. I couldn't think of JUNK either. On the other hand, the 2nd bonus puzzle was much easier.

Absolute rubbish BRs tonight, such a major stepdown from last week which had such appropriate puzzles, more than any from last season.

The BR does absolutely NOT need these triple toss-up style puzzles in it (and I say that knowing it was one a few years ago). JUNK DRAWER itself is pretty much a WOF puzzle staple at this point, with it last being used in the BR for the third time a couple years back and AGAIN as a TU last season. I’ve gotten so used to the show not even waiting calendar years to recycle puzzles anymore that I really wouldn’t have cared if it showed up here again. This one was QUINOA SALAD levels of unfair and is a prime example of how NOT to write a BR.

WAYD? seems to have fallen down a strange rabbit hole where these puzzles that are more equipped for Phrase have made their way over. We saw this last year with JUST WINGING IT and JUST BLUFFING a few weeks ago. This one definitely feels like an intro TU reject that got shipped off to bonus land and I don’t like it here at all.

They actually wanted that second BR won. That's the first time since 2014 that I'M was used in a bonus puzzle. We know they usually work around it by putting I AM because they know I'M with no letters is too obvious and makes the puzzle easy (or easy I/M negbait). It's also the first primetime BR with punctuation.

The second half of this episode was a slight improvement from the first.

Good thing Penn nailed an easy Bonus Round puzzle. And while Kel brought the laughs, Kim and Penn’s bickering in the second game (and Pat’s scolding) had me in stitches! 😂

On the other hand, the first round of the first game was painful to watch. And Lose a Turn was a menace in the Prize Puzzle. It’s a bummer Kel didn’t even get to light up his scoreboard in the second game.

I wasn’t expecting the downward key change in the Triple Toss-Up. And I no-lettered the Jerry Maguire quote.

My ratings: 4 and 7

I was able to watch this one on-demand over the holiday. It was hard to decide whether I should root for Kel or Penn. Of course, Kim was also fun to watch, and her interactions with Penn were hilarious.

I was thinking the 4-letter word in Round 2 would be LOVE, but I also figured it could be HELP before any letters were revealed on the left side.

I got both bonus puzzles with RSTLNE, though the first one wasn't immediately. Penn certainly picked the right consonants for his puzzle!

Recaps will be on hiatus as of May 27, 2024 due to life changes.
