This weekend my goal was to model the changes to Classic Layout B (used for round 2 in S4 and early S5 until the Big Month of Cash, and used for round 3 and sometimes round 4 after that).
Overall, Layout B was pretty stable over the Classic palette era (1986-1996). Only one permanent change occurred that I am aware of, and that relates to the 250-400-500 Purple-Arctic-Pink run clockwise from the one Bankrupt. This run of wedges changed sometime near the end of the Big Month of Cash (exact episode unclear, sometime between [S5-809 Mary Beth/Donna/Robin 1987-10-22] and [S5-822 Norm/Dianne/Linda 1987-11-10]). The Purple 250 and Pink 500 changed positions for some reason. I always thought this may have been inadvertent, since Daytime did not follow this change and kept the Purple-Arctic-Pink coloring on this run through its end. But syndicated kept this change, with the colors only changing again with the adoption of the "Fresh" palette in early Season 14, with the new sequence of amounts still being kept.
This change can now be modeled on my wheel:
The only other change (besides the obvious adoption of the $3500 TDV with Big Month of Cash, which I already have an add-on for, font changes, and slight re-colors) was the curious cameo appearance of the Season 2 Lime 900 wedge about halfway through Season 4 and at the very start of Season 5. For a handful of episodes, this wedge covered the Gamboge 900 This was true for these episodes at least:
[S4-E681 Maggie/Faye/Scott 1/26/1987]
[S4-E688 Dan/Judi/Bonnie 2/4/1987]
[S5-E781 Vera/Gary/Ken 9/16/1987]
[S5-E782 Sandy/Mark/Jim 9/29/1987]
Interestingly, this change was not present in [S4-E686 Susanne/Rosemarie/Shauna 2/3/1987] likely due to taping order/airing order differences and network bicycling. It was also gone by [S5-E783 Nancy/Tracy/Mitch 10/1/1987] though it may have re-appeared later in some episodes thought to be lost.
In [S5-E782], another variation was present in addition to the Lime 900 variation. In that episode, a Gamboge 900 was also covering a Gamboge 200 a bit counterclockwise from the Lime 900 chaos. Unlike the cosmetic Lime 900 change, this has a small gameplay effect, raising the average/mean DV of the 21 DV wedges by about $33.
I've created add-on wedges to model both of these changes. Interestingly, staring at the videos for these episodes, I see several wedges that appear to be add-on wedges. Possibly these are covering daytime DV wedges?
Special thanks to germanname1990 for helping with my research of the Lime 900 chaos. Thanks as always to MarioGS and wheelgenius for templates and base artwork.
Well, I've already accomplished my goal for the weekend. Maybe I'll have a surprise or two to show by the end of the weekend, though?
