Pat says his goodbyes: first thanking the audience for coming back. He wanted to keep it neutral, but it transitioned to an English teaching tool and an institution. He mentions that every time, he learned the story about three new people, and those were the stars of the show. He then thanks the crew who made his job better. He then notes how she enjoyed meeting up with Maggie again, and mentions she's loved on set. He then mentions his wife Lesly and his son, Patrick. He ends by thanking Vanna for being sweet and a great person to meet with. Pat then jokes that you'll still see him for a few months on summer reruns, and says goodbye one last time.

Well, the day has come, and the season and Pat's tenure as host went out with a bang! This episode felt like a throwback with playing 3 rounds, Pat spinning the wheel, and a commercial break between the bonus round and show closing.
Having the first Toss Up be Chicago Illinois was a nice touch as a nod to Pat's home, and there were a few other puzzles that fit the theme. It was interesting that they skipped the first round and gave each contestant $5,000 to start instead. It was also very nice that Pat got to do one more final spin, well make that an opening spin I guess.
A prize wedge win and Triple Toss Up sweep to end Pat's tenure! I wonder if that was really why they had the Prize Puzzle trip be Finland or was that a Pat joke?
Adrienne gets to make history as Pat's final big winner, and she also gets his final bonus round solve! Pretty easy puzzle, especially with the Cs and the P put up.
A very touching and heartfelt message by Pat, it's so nice he got to thank everyone, and he nailed it on the head as to what the show has meant for everyone that's watched over the years. I was a little surprised they gave him as much time as he got for his farewell but given how long he hosted he totally deserved the time. A simply incredible career, and tonight was truly the end of an era. Thank you, Pat, congratulations and best wishes in your retirement.

The opening montage started off with, I believe, many people would know about Pat's first show (Daytime) in 1981. I have been thinking what kind of clip would appear on his last episode and that clip from 1981 could only be that one candidate.
With only 30 minutes and Pat's final messages to everyone, the round was indeed shortened. The last time I saw a 3-round structure was in the late 90's (Las Vegas show? or Hawaii show?). Interesting to see a Mystery Round played in the first round, an eye-opener.
Pat's doing the final spin because of a shortened gameplay? Yes! I believe that was the first time since early 2000's that he landed on a non-cash wedge. Well, it's not his show, so why not just give everyone the money and move on to the next round.
It's fascinating to see the last Mystery Wedge flip, the last Wheel prize being picked up and won, the last $10,000 TTU sweep and also the BR being won in a big way under Pat's tenure. That's the way to end Pat's final show!
To be honest, during the TTU, I cried. After the BR, I cried again. After Pat said "Goodbye", I burst into tears.
I'm from Singapore, and our television station has been airing Wheel since 1991 (with a few years being skipped). My grandfather got me into this show in the mid or late-90s. From looking at the colorful carnival wheel spinning around, to learning the alphabets and to knowing the different words and phrases and to solving puzzles quicker than the in-studio contestants. This show is definitely one of the best places to learn English and like what Pat mentioned in his final speech "(The half-hour show) is a safe place for family fun. No social issues, no politics...". Even with some gameplay changes over the seasons introduced, every episode would always begin with introducing Pat and Vanna, playing the game and end with a closing chat. The processes may seem repetitive but I'm sure all Wheel watchers have no issues with watching the same beginning and the same ending every single night.
When the show was skipped for a few years, it didn't stop me from doing internet searches of how the show have been doing over the years (From the introduction of the LED set to the Prize Puzzles to the Wild Card) and searching for clips of the shows that I never got to see on television. Now, with all the classic episodes available on The Video Vault and Pluto, I can continue to watch "new episodes" online.
If Season 41 is airing in Singapore, I will have to mark my calendars for the Pat's final week. Before that, I'm hoping for the last week of shows to be on the summer reruns again. Hopefully, we would be able to hear the full closing theme on the final episode. The closing credits wasn't enough!
Thank you, Pat, for giving me those 20+ years of wonderful memories. It's always a pleasure watching you. Here's wishing Pat a happy retirement and all the best.

Again, I have to think back to when I first watched this hour of game shows, and the first I consciously remember would've been during Season 11 with Pat. It just feels like it wasn't so long ago, but suddenly, here we are saying goodbye. It's almost 31 years later, in my case. Perhaps it shouldn't come as a surprise that I or anyone could no-letter that first Toss-Up. It's even been mentioned on the show that Chicago is Pat's hometown. I liked the surprise of Pat just giving everyone a $5,000 bonus before the main game. Everyone leaves with something good today! I was thinking it would be awkward if Pat's final show had a gooseegg victim. Adrienne picked the right letters for that Bonus Round, and Pat can finish with a Bonus Round win! (I got it with RSTLNE, by the way.) Finally, we have the farewell. I actually watched it on the official YouTube channel before the airing, but even after a second look, it's still a lot to take in. Enjoy your retirement, Pat, and thank you for all these years of Wheel of Fortune!

Bye, Pat Sajak on Wheel of Fortune. You will be missed after more than 40 years on air. Ken Jennings on Jeopardy will stick around for several years after the host Mayim Bialik left in late 2023. Ryan Seacrest is going on air on Wheel of Fortune on September 9, 2024, and Vanna will stick around.

Pat was really vulnerable in a way you wouldn't expect after the mics cut after Sajak's incredible monologue, between him and Vanna. It was raw, it was real. It was everything. You can probably surmise who was who here.
"Did I do alright?" "You did great." "I just wanted them to know...you know?" "I'll miss you!"
...I really hope this show keeps its dry wit, that it isn't afraid to make fun of anyone, anything, anywhere, anytime. I don't doubt Ryan's ability. I just wonder if that kind of presence exists in today's entertainment world. Pat truly is the last of his generation, to not be an existing celebrity, to turn that not into merely a game show host, but to make it a long standing career out of essentially the ashes, to be reborn again as a phoenix. Perhaps of note, that was the logo Merv Griffin Enterprises, to come out of nothing, to come back, and make a name for it. That's what Pat did after the talk show, after all, a note long lost to history at large. Pat showed that it wasn't about falling, it was getting up from falling, and then punching right back.
Pat was and is the wheel in ways that strike far beyond the 30 minutes, 60 minutes, whatever number you want to say. You see, with Wheel itself predicated on the table game of roulette, you want some unpredictability. Sometimes, you land on the green, you cash, you pick the number, or land on the black or red. The game had its fortune and the physical wheel, but when you got Pat involved, you spun a different wheel. Sometimes, he'd make fun of himself, the situation, or be the ultimate croupier and let the little white pill fall as it did. But it was always unpredictable. That too, was the true luck of the game, his life, and what you got to experience, be it as a player or an audience member of your couch or studios alike.
On a wheel that spun our dreams, Pat stood, a guiding light, In a world of letters and fate, He brought joy every night.
Through decades long, his smile stayed bright, A beacon of cheer and grace, His presence, a comforting sight, In our hearts, he found a place.
Every spin, a tale to tell, Every guess, a shared delight, He turned our evenings into gold, And made our burdens light.
Yet now the wheel must slow its turn, And Pat must say goodbye, A tearful farewell, our hearts will yearn, For the man who reached the sky.
He touched us all, far and wide, With kindness, warmth, and cheer, In every home, he found a side, Of love, of joy, so dear.
His laughter echoes, memories blend, As we bid our fond adieu, Pat Sajak, more than just a friend, In our hearts, forever true.

What a finale. The flashback, first Toss-Up, and Prize Puzzle trip were a sweet nod to Pat’s retirement. I particularly appreciated Pat’s bonus for everyone; even if it cost us a round, it contributed to a five-figure match. Speaking of the contestants, Adrienne’s Triple Toss-Up sweep (I would’ve flubbed the first one with WRITING) and Bonus Round win were the cherry on top. I’m surprised THING showed up in every episode’s category list. But if I wasn’t ready for Vanna’s speech, I was completely unprepared for Pat’s. My rating: 8 Weekly rating: 7 Gameplay-wise, Pat’s farewell week turned out nice. This whole season was… well, interesting. Well, Pat, it’s been an absolute pleasure watching you on my TV for half of your 40-plus years as host. Thank you so much for entertaining us for decades, and we will miss you dearly. 🥹 (By the way, beautiful poem, Prizes!)

I am age 57. I am old enough to remember watching the daytime version of Jeopardy! with Art Fleming as host back in the early 1970s.
The cancellation of that show led way to Wheel of Fortune starting on Monday, January 6th 1975. I had just turned 8 years old less than three weeks prior to that first program.
I remember with great fondness Chuck Woolery as the host, Susan Stafford as the letter turner and Charlie O' Donnell as the original announcer.
Our family having just gotten our first COLOR television set a year before, seeing the spectacle that was that wheel in such vibrant colors really was fascinating to me.
It was a show I remember watching with my grandmother, my mom, my cousins, as well as my own son. As Pat has said about the show, it is multi-generational.
Jeopardy's original cancellation made way for Wheel of Fortune and Chuck Woolery. Chuck's departure on Christmas Day 1981 made way for Pat Sajak, and the rest is history.
To think what has happened since Pat first took over the show way back in late December 1981.
Just three months prior to Pat's first NBC show, Sandra Day O'Connor became the first female Supreme Court Justice.
Pope John Paul the 2nd had only been pope for 3 years.
Ronald Reagan was still in his first year of his first term as 40th President of the United States.
Earlier in 1981 the first successful manned Space Shuttle flight took place.
Bob Barker and Price is Right was in it's 10th season on CBS and Bob still had dark hair.
On August 1st of that year, MTV debuted across the nation on cable, back when the M actually stood for Music.
ESPN was only 2 years old at the time. Dwight Clark's infamous "The Catch" in the NFC Championship Game against the Dallas Cowboys happened less than 2 weeks after Pat's first show.
So amazing just how many things have changed, some for better, some others not, so amazing how many people and shows have come and gone during that incredibly long span of time.
I only wish that Pat's final speech would have included a thank you to Merv Griffin, even though Merv passed away so long ago too.
Thanks for the Memories Pat, and best wishes to Ryan. He will never be able to replace you, only succeed you.

That was a very nice message by Pat, but there is one thing I wonder. I have been thinking, I really would not be surprised if this week reran the week of 9/2-9/6. But if they were to do that, they would have to somehow edit out Pat's reference to summer reruns. I'm also a bit surprised they didn't bring on Ryan Seacrest, so Pat could basically "pass the torch."

It would've been a nice touch for Pat to thank Merv as well, but given how long it's been since he's passed and that it was over 40 years ago when he hired Pat, I understand wanting to keep his thank yous to the viewing audience, contestants, the staff and crew, his family, and Vanna. I thought too we would see Ryan Seacrest at some point this week for a guest appearance, but maybe he wasn't available during the tape date or he didn't want to take away from Pat. That was a very nice message by Pat, but there is one thing I wonder. I have been thinking, I really would not be surprised if this week reran the week of 9/2-9/6. I would imagine this week will also close out summer reruns to lead into the host change, and either they'll just keep in the summer reruns part, omit it, or maybe they'll even have a new line to tell viewers to watch the new season Monday with Ryan Seacrest.

now that i've seen the episode, i gotta ask: outside of CWOF, when was the last 3 round game? November 27, 1998, last show of Family Week from Las Vegas.

I also found it weird that they had her interview and I am happy he pointed out out. Though that speech was amazing it really remind you about everything wheel of fortune is. I have to admit I was shocked that the game was so much like a regular game at the surface (other than the spin for the first round) but at some point it out there was hints in the game. I kinda wish they could have gotten the first three contestants since they used to occasionally bring them on for speeches but it just worked. I really hope this show keeps its dry wit, that it isn't afraid to make fun of anyone, anything, anywhere, anytime. I really hope to keep the dry humor too that was the first thing I thought of when I heard his announcement a year ago. his humour is not at all like the average comedian humour of today and I love him for it. (in the 'I enjoy watching the show way', not the other) and I want to even expand about what she said about the wheel. The original planned title for the show might have had to do a shopping but the title that made it refers to a tarot card the wheel of fortune. I am not an expert in tarot so I actually do not know the meaning but interesting to consider. In terms of Ryan you a correct they might have been an issue considering he does American idol and that show is aired live for the second half. (which would have been the spring portion in which this might have been filmed) granted I am thinking of that deal or no deal Island commercial which like or hate the show that commercial with him passing it on really worked. it would have been cool to see something similar for Pat and Ryan. exactly, and will be remembered for as long as we stay around. I know that every switch of a host on popular game show has some thing like this but his type of humor is not common place today. he really is one of the last of that type of host.
