Today is the big tournament day! Seven contestants will gather for the 2024 Tournament of Munkees! Why Munkees? It is the name my wife's group of friends collectively gave to themselves back in college, and the group has since expanded to include their immediate families. That is who will be playing today. In preparation for this event, I have made three commemorative wedges, that will be given all contestants. The winner and runner-up for the tournament will receive the "shiny sparkly" editions of the wedge. Spinning to commence in just a few hours!

I'm happy to report that the tournament was a smashing success, by the barometer of everyone having a blast and very much wanting to do it again. There was cheering, applause, dancing, and bad jokes by host and contestant alike. It was like some of the energy from the studio came to visit my humble home.
With the time that we had, we managed to play three games. We intended to play more after dinner, but it was starting to get late and people had to retreat to their own corners of the state at a fairly reasonable hour. Being the host, I was not the one taking pictures or video, but I know that lots of pictures and videos were taken. I'll post what I can as it comes to me over the coming days, so please be patient.
Some highlights: Even before the game, the afternoon snacks were a hit. We went themed with the snacks - everything had to be round or wedge-shaped. We had lime tortilla chips with guacamole, as a big nod to the coloring of the prize wedges. There were also cookies, Reese's Cups, and I got rounds of Gouda cheese that fit perfectly through an apple corer to make wheel wedge shaped cheese slices. We decided that cones were wedge-shaped when projected onto a 2D plane, so we also had Mini-Drumsticks.
One thing that was especially a hit - I excerpted actual prize plugs to use. I have an arcade cabinet in the game room, and I hijacked to menu system for that to launch the prize plugs at the appropriate times.
Wheel is a wonderful group game - with both luck and skill involved, it is not always the most skilled player that comes out on top. Especially if, as a designer, one makes sure to add the potential for those lucky moments to happen. We had a wide mix of skill levels.
In the end, my wife, who has probably had the most practice by playing with me, came out in first place with $18,415. However, in second place was the contestant who had the least confidence going into the tournament, raking in $5,950.
I received many, many compliments and thanks for putting together a wonderful event for everyone. I think that next time we all get together, we'll definitely be doing this again, people are going to want to devote a larger block of time to it, and it will probably get a little more competitive.

A couple more quick notes:
A notable gameplay occurrence - Early in round 4 ($5k) in the first game, one contestant managed to podium stack ALL THREE prizes on three consecutive spins - Round 2 prize (SILVER), then SURPRISE, then Round 4 prize (PIN). Alas, they were unable to bring it home, dudding out a couple of turns later.
I got more feedback today - our friends really love the commemorative wedges that I made, and many plan to display them as a reminder of this special experience.

Well those video embeds were fail, guess file.io doesn't like it. I'll think of something else, and meanwhile, I turned my dolphins into a proper prize plug screenshot. Maybe I'll feature it in the next tournament.
