Kinda surprised this hasn't been brought up here already, especially since it was released about a month ago: I’d Like to Buy a Vowel - Spinning 50 Years of Wheel of Fortune, by Wesley Hyatt. www.amazon.com/dp/B0DC74JBHP/Per Matt Ottinger at The Game Show Forum (post is here if you're interested in reading his thoughts on the book and its author), it's "a mostly linear history of the show, from Shopper's Bazaar to Pat's retirement. Along the way, he's got first-hand interviews with Susan Stafford, Bob Goen, Rolf Benirschke, lots of key production people and a bunch of contestants. He didn't get Vanna, Pat or Chuck, but he weaves in their comments and quotes from other (always attributed) sources." Also of note from our end, the list of sources cited (included in the free preview) includes both BAV and the History Wiki. /#notsponsored

I have the book. There is an entire section on the Mike Richards Jeopardy! drama (it really didn't affect anything at Wheel until his termination), and John Lauderdale reveals that he left because of Bellamie Blackstone (he could not stand her and accuses her of stealing credit for Merv and Harry's contributions to the show's legacy), and that Pat's attitude got particularly bad after Harry Friedman left and he took it out on everyone else, including John, who even told Pat he left the show partially because "you weren't very nice to me". He and other staff members thought Pat seemed happier when Mike was gone and Steve was running things, then got grumpy again when Bellamie came along. Sad to hear Bellamie is not as accepted on the staff as she is in the fandom, but maybe they just didn't think the show needed any changes.
