Hello again! I'm back with my third (and final, for now) recap. This time the episode is from late 1981 and is available as an audio only episode, much like the others I've recapped. Without further ado, here is the recap!
======================
Original Air Date: December 18, 1981
Note: As you could probably have guessed, this is Chuck's second to last week hosting Wheel.
======================
Jack Clark’s Opening: Look at these extravagant prizes. Handsome 18-Karat gold cufflinks. A versatile two piece wall unit. A beautiful pedestal sink. Total retail value, over $38,000 as we continue Christmas Wish Week on Wheel of Fortune. And now here’s your host, Chuck Woolery.
Chuck enters and then introduces Susan Stafford. Once that’s done, Chuck mentions that this is the final day of Christmas Wish Week. That’s where the winner will have a chance to face the puzzle board alone and hopefully win whatever they’d like.
Contestants:
Terry Landmichael (?): He’s from Las Vegas, Nevada and is a househusband.
Debbie ? (sounds like Mossbroker?): Our returning champion from Portland, Oregon. They have a two-day total of $7,800.
Smitty “Vivia” Smith: She enjoys golf, crossword puzzles and pinball.
During Chuck’s interview with Terry, Chuck mentions that he will be a househusband starting December 26.
With the interviews done, it’s time to get underway and take a look at the Wheel of Fortune…
Opening Spin Spiel: Top dollar value on the wheel for the first round is $750. Look out for this black space BANKRUPT because if you hit that, you lose all your cash but not your merchandise because once you buy a prize, it’s yours to keep.
Round 1 Puzzle:
_ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _
PHRASE
(Note: I am not too sure of the letter placement on the board but this seems the most likely to me?)
Anyway, Terry’s in control since it’s round 1 and he drew number 1.
Terry:
$150; T, no T
Debbie:
LOSE A TURN
As Smitty spins, Chuck mentions these crossword puzzle players are tough. He knows from experience.
Smitty:
$250; R, no R
Terry:

*BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BEEP*
A L L / K I D D I N G
A S I D _
PHRASE
That sound means that nobody can touch the wheel anymore for this round. Luckily, Smitty knows the puzzle, so she solves it. It is, of course, ALL KIDDING ASIDE and is able to bank that $1,300! Smitty will spend her money in the Luxury Bath…

Time for Round 2, where $1,000 is the Top Dollar Value. They added a second Bankrupt though.

D E C _ F F E _ N _ T E D
C O F F E E
THING
Just like with the first round, no more spinning can be done! With only vowels left, Debbie solves the puzzle, which is DECAFFEINATED COFFEE. Debbie won $1,850 with that solve, which could probably buy her a lot of decaffeinated coffee. Anyway, Debbie will spend her money in the Family Room (I think?).
Wall Unit / $1,254
Typewriter / $335
Hard-Cover Books / $175
($86 on Gift Certificate)
Round 2 Scores:
Terry: $0
Debbie: $1,850
Smitty: $1,300
======================
It’s now Round 3 and they’re bringing out the big bucks because $2,000 is the Top Dollar Value. They also have $1,500 out there on the wheel. (I believe that $2,000 and $250 are still in their original places in this episode?)
Round 3 Puzzle:
_ _ _ _ _ _ ‘ _
_ _ _ _ _ _
TITLE
After Susan turns the apostrophe, Chuck has Smitty start this round since she’s our third player.
Smitty:
$700; S, two S’s
Vowel; E, three E’s
$500; T, one T
Vowel; I, one I
$600; R, two R’s
R E _ _ E R ‘ S
_ I _ E S T
TITLE
Smitty currently has $2,600 in her bank, which is more than enough for her, so she solves. She’s correct with her guess of READER’S DIGEST. Smitty will spend that money in the Christmas Dining Room.
Sterling Silver Bowl / $1,125
Flatware Chest / $675
Microwave Oven / $600
Christmas Linens / $86
Brass Candlestick / $50
($64 placed on a gift certificate)
Round 3 Scores:
Terry: $0
Debbie: $1,850
Smitty: $3,900
Chuck mentions that they have time for a fourth round, which they’ll play after the commercial.
======================
Coming back from commercial and they do indeed have time for a fourth round, however there’s not much time left for it so Chuck will give the wheel a final spin for the day. Every consonant will be worth $800. It might not be $2,000 or $1,500 but it’s still a good amount…
Round 4 Puzzle:
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _
THING
Terry; T, one T. No guess.
Debbie; S, no S.
Smitty; R, one R. No guess.
Terry; Y, no Y.
Debbie; N, no N.
Smitty; P, one P. No guess.
Terry; L, no L.
Debbie; G, no G.
Smitty; H, one H. No guess.
Terry; E (which he tries to buy); two E’s.
_ E _ T H E R
_ _ P
THING
Those E’s must’ve helped Terry because he ends up solving our puzzle, which is WEATHER MAP for $800! Terry will spend his money in the Sun(?) Room.
Fan / $625
Planter Baskets / $120
($55 on Gift Certificate)
Round 4 Scores/Final Totals:
Terry: $800
Debbie: $1,850 today, she retires with a three-day total of $9,650
Smitty: $3,900
Everybody won something but Smitty came out on top and is our winner for the day! We’re not done yet, though! After the commercial, Smitty will have a chance to play for a bonus prize of her choosing!
======================
They’re back from the commercial break. Chuck asks if Smitty is ready and then tells her to turn around. He also asks her what she wants to play for. Smitty chooses the car, which is a Mazda Hatchback that is described by Jack. (The car is valued at $7,874)
After the car is described, Chuck tells Smitty that they’re looking for THINGS. He then asks her to give him 6 letters, 5 of them being consonants and 1 being a vowel.
Smitty chooses the following letters; S, T, R, N, M, A.
Once her letters are locked in there are five dings heard. She is then given 15 seconds to try and solve it. (I believe) She says “STARTERS” which isn’t correct and then mumbles some stuff as the timer beeps. Sadly, Smitty does not solve the bonus puzzle.
(Sorry, I do not have the correct answer to the bonus puzzle as I couldn’t quite hear it. The compendium also doesn’t appear to have the bonus puzzle solution listed either. Honestly, to my ears, it sounds like it’s something that starts with “SP” but I could be wrong.)
To make things better, Chuck tells Smitty that they’ve already won a good bit today. Plus she’ll be coming back on the next show!
After this last commercial break, Chuck and Susan begin to wrap up the show. Susan mentions how they’re getting a new set on Monday, which includes a bigger and better puzzle board, which means that a lot more money can be won! Then Chuck and Susan talk a little bit more before they finally say goodbye, with Susan saying “I love you” to someone (probably the viewers) and then the credits roll.
======================
And that concludes this third recap! There was yet another "audio-only" episode from the Woolery era that I was going to recap, however I can't seem to find a copy of it anymore. If it happens to show back up (and no one else does a recap for it beforehand), I might do the recap.
