Hey, all. I'm going to be a contestant on one of the shows taping this Thursday, Sept. 1. I love the enthusiasm you all have for the show. What advice would you give me? (I'm not a novice. In typical geek fashion, I've come up with spin probabilities, etc. I've also watched the show for years and years, so I know stuff like buying vowels and guessing I-N-G on "What Are You Doing?")
Fixed the thread title so it isn't in all caps.

Be yourself, and have fun. Also, be sure to tell us all about your experience! You can give a brief, spoiler-free post detailing any changes, whatnot, for the new season (just PM it to me first to clear it for spoilers), then when your show airs, give us the full experience in the day's recap thread. Good luck!

Best of luck! Check out our Wheel Strategies thread. I'd especially prefer you see my list of dos-and-don'ts of the Bonus Round. Also, here's some advice I gave to someone else on the boards who taped his show recently: Jared, I have one last piece of advice before you fly out to tape your show this week. Know the wheel. The reason why people get Bankrupt and Lose a Turn so much to the point people are convinced the wheel is rigged is because everybody spins with a certain pattern which eventually reaches penalty areas, and most of those people don't consider how to control their spins. Here is the basic configuration, thanks to wheelgenius and SuperKingT: When you get to do those practice spins before taping, take note of how strong your spin is by comparing where it started to where it landed. When you start landing closer to Bankrupt or Lose a Turn, spin lighter than usual, especially if the contestant before you just spun either to avoid going back around. Though you must keep in mind that you can't aim for particular wedges, so it can't look obvious on camera or they will ask you to spin again. If you have the Million Dollar Wedge or the second 1/2 Car tag, control your spins so that they stay in what I like to call the "safe area," which is, going clockwise, from the top dollar value to the pink $900 wedge/Wild Card. This probably will require spinning harder or lighter than usual. If your spins are too weak to stay in that area consistently, then try to alternate between that area, the Free Play wedge (I say that wedge in particular because landing on either the purple $600 or the blue $300 could be cutting it close) and around the area between the purple $350 and the green $700/one of the 1/2 Car tags. Have a safe trip.

I agree with everything that was said here.
Just a minor, off-topic note: Please don't make your thread titles in all caps. It's makes it sound as if you are shouting.
Good luck! I hope you win big!!

Also, I may offer some gameplay strategy to take into consideration:
1: If are the first to spin in any given round, and the puzzle takes up only 2 rows, and nothing but relatively long words prevail in the puzzle, call an R first. If the puzzle takes up 3 rows or more, and there are long words in the puzzle (no 2- or 3-letter types), call a T first.
If the category is Things, People, Proper Names, etc., and there are nothing but longer words, call an S first (at least you can earn some money to buy a vowel), then call an R on your next spin (should you not hit a bankrupt or lose a turn).
2. Golden Rule: Buy Vowels when given the opportunity. The more vowels you fit in, the better your chances of solving the puzzle, and the better chances of taking the lead if anything.
3. Don't aim to go for extreme money. The moment you know the puzzle, solve it right away after you call a consonant or vowel. After all, if you solve a puzzle successfully, you do win something, even if it's the house minimum of $1,000.
4. Wait until Vanna has cleared the way (revealed all the letters) first before you make your decision to spin again, buy a vowel, or solve the puzzle. There are cases of hyperactive players who rush into spinning the wheel before the last of the letters called is revealed. Imagine if there were 6 of a certain letter and the wheel was spun after the 3rd of such letter is revealed, and you could have known the puzzle after all the letters you called were revealed, and you end up hitting a bankrupt or a lose a turn. Contestants did not rush into spinning in 1994, so why do it now?
5. Don't try to beat all. If you beat all, consider it a bonus. But even if you don't solve any puzzles, at least $1,000 consolation cash beats nothing at all.
6. And best of all, have fun at your taping! I will look forward to seeing you when your episode airs!
