The U.S. Open men's final is set for 4:20p tomorrow on CBS (been very rainy in the Northeast). Without the move, the Wheel premiere would have been pre-empted in any non-straight set match (and maybe even then).  |

Glad they decided to do that after all....I just had to help a friend out on Facebook who swore that Wheel's official site said the new season began tomorrow...Took him a little while to believe me, but he finally did!

Plus, they are indeed ending this season on the third Friday of June (the 15th this time around) rather than the second. Jeopardy! will also end a week later than usual (First Friday of August, I believe. Lucky...  ) to make up for the late start. |

For awhile, I thought the delay of the start of the season to the third Monday was some form of "insurance" in case a terrorist attack occurred on or just around the tenth anniversary of 9-11, in which there would be constant news coverage for days.
Coincidentally, the syndicated run "officially" began on September 19, 1983. I wonder if maybe setting the start of Season 29 on the 19th has anything to do with that?
I always thought the reason later seasons no longer started on Labor Day was because of the Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon (which has since been cut to six hours on the Sunday evening before Labor Day).

9-19-83 sounds like they set it up to have a season begin the day the night show began airing. A little fishy,if you ask me, maybe pat and vanna will mention something about it tommorrow.
