Welcome to Wheel Season 29!
After a long summer of reruns, reports about changes, and fun chat nights, the new season of Wheel of Fortune is finally upon us, and with that, a return to our normal routine. It has been an exciting summer, both at the show and around here, but it is finally time to get settled back in again and get back to business.
With that, I would like to make a few announcements:
First, as already announced, the chatroom will be opened on weekday nights from 7-8pm Eastern for show discussion. Since the show airs at different times in every market, for best results, you should come in only when your show airs. For those up in Canada (or for those of us near the border who only get the show on CBC), if there is enough interest, we might open up the chatroom for the 430pm CBC airing...but for now, we will be open just from 7-8.
Second, the new season of WOF Live has officially kicked off in the chatroom. This show takes place Sunday nights at 8pm Eastern. This is a perfect opportunity to perfect your puzzle solving skills for the DPG, or even to be a contestant on the real show in Culver City!
The third announcement was announced earlier in the chatroom, but I will make it official now- the Hosting Other Shows section (and The Chopping Block, for that matter) will be going away. Since the changes made to that section, we have received no scripts...and interest in hosting has seemed to declined as a whole. Therefore, it was decided that it is in the best interests of the site to remove this section. The Wheel of Fortune netgames, under the new rotation format, will continue.
Fourth, we have removed the old "Puzzleboard" skin from the list of site skins, leaving just the new Season 29 skin. Some font colors that were perfectly readable on the old skin were less than readable on the new one, and the majority of site users were already using the new one anyways. The new design was the culmination of one grand vision for the site, along with over a month's worth of work by several very talented people to come up with what you see today. I think it looks great, and would like to share it with you all.
Finally...in our little corner of the world, this has been a whirlwind of a summer. Since I joined this site back in May, we have come a long way in terms of the quality and overall direction of the site...and the new design is only the icing on the top of the cake. We had an exciting DPG playoff series in July, which saw our own Jon Boutaille successfully defend his championship against a very formidable challenger in Andy. Shortly afterwards, we kicked off a brand new season of DPG, with an exciting new format which has been hugely successful, with several new players this season. We also got a semi-official Timeline courtesy of tenpoundhammer, WayoshiM's wonderful WOFTracker tool, and wonderful artwork from many very artistic users.
The most significant achievement this summer, though, is the impressive growth of the site. We have seen an influx of new members lately (partly as a result of the Sony boards going down), and we welcomed our 500th member a few weeks ago- an amazing accomplishment considering we had around 250 in March, over two years since the founding of this site. On top of that, we also have several great new staff members, the most recent of which, WayoshiM, we are thrilled to have on board.
However, none of this would be possible without you, the fans, the ones who make what we do possible and make it enjoyable (and gives me something to look forward to after a long day of work). Without you, this site would cease to exist. That being said, please continue to contribute to this site more than ever now that the new season is beginning. Our full recaps of each show will begin again, providing an opportunity for all members to make their comments about the day's episode. The DPG will continue through November, when a new playoff series will begin. There may be some additional surprises come Christmastime, stay tuned...
Have fun, and may this be a great season!
(BTW, comments are okay and welcomed.)
