I remember watching an episode of Goen's WOF in early August 1989, and I noticed something different about one of the letters from the classic font.
I noticed the letter "O" appeared to be a bit wider as opposed to previous episodes. I definitely remember seeing a puzzle "BLONDE HAIR AND BLUE EYES" sometime in the summer of 1989, and the "O" appeared to be wider. That wide "O" didn't last long, and reverted back to the original "O" ever since until the demise of the classic puzzle board on Pat's episodes in 1997.
If someone can back me up on this, feel free to do so.

It was actually a zero, instead of an O.

Several puzzles from shortly after the CBS/Goen premiere until about September 1989 (including the first month of nighttime Season 7) used zeros in place of Os. The zeros are wider than the Os.

^The last puzzle we've found with a zero for an O is on September 29, 1989.
There's a publicity photo from the mid-80s with the board reading WHEEL OF FORTUNE'S 3000TH SHOW. I wonder if the zeroes came from that and somehow remained in storage, or if there was another reason they had zeroes made up?

Probably some letter stock crisis or something new feature?
*that's just a guess. No need to smite*
