This one's the Season 7 finale on June 15, 1990. If you want to, feel free to discuss this episode. Anyway, here we go.
-----------------------------------------
There's over $112,000 waiting to be given away on the Season 7 finale and these three contestants want their piece of the pie! (and forgive me if I spell the last names wrong, I'm going by what it sounds like)
Lynn Scholdeiner: 2-day champion with $19,850 cash and prizes.
Mark Chaffe: He's a lot of things... an actor, a writer, a guitarist, but he claims that playing the guitar is just a hobby.
Kathleen Ross: Gymnast, likes to lift weights and do aerobics and is also studying for a business psychology degree at UCLA.
And all three of these players are here to win big, but for now, our champion, Lynn, gets control of the wheel.
There's a $1,000 wedge on the wheel, along with a Bankrupt, and these three players are playing for cash. The first puzzle is... People.
It's quite a big Round 1 puzzle too. Lynn immediately starts with a $150 N before hitting Bankrupt on the next spin. Control goes to Mark and he takes over... we're soon down to this.
After some suspense, he solves MOVIE CRITICS SISKEL AND EBERT for $5,900 and an early lead!
Lynn:
Mark: $5,900
Kathleen:
Bankrupts: 1 (Lynn with $150)
Lose a Turns: 0
Duds: 0
Missolves: 0
Fun Fact: The Free Spin got loose and ended up in the middle of the red $200 and yellow $500. Pat had to put it back where it belonged.
Now we have a $2,500 wedge on the wheel as well as this chandelier from Schnobek, a $3,585 value (marked CRYSTAL on the wheel)! And this time, the category is Event.
Mark gets to start this round and immediately lost his turn due to Lose a Turn. So Kathleen gets her chance to spin now. And after a ton of work, she lands on the red $200 and misses with a W. And we go to Lynn, but not for long, because she lands on the blue 300 and immediately misses with an M. We go back to Mark, who lands on the blue $300 and misses with an R after lighting up an S and two Ls worth $200 each. Now it's back to Kathleen who buys an I and after those come up, she solves...
...HAVING ONE LAST FLING for $2,750 and she's on the board! And the Free Spin actually stayed on the yellow $500 this time.
Lynn:
Mark: $5,900
Kathleen: $2,750
Bankrupts: 0
Lose a Turns: 1 (Mark - $0)
Duds: 3 (Kathleen (W) - $2,800; Lynn (M) - $0; Mark (R) - $600)
Missolves: 0
The $3,500 wedge has arrived for Round 3 and here comes the next puzzle, it's Before & After.
And it's a huge one as well! Kathleen gets to start the round and she immediately calls SEVEN Ts worth $2,800. After a whole lot of work and filling in all but two letters she, unfortunately, BANKRUPTS at $9,100! Ah man... well, it's an opportunity for Lynn now, who calls the remaining two Ms at $1,000 a piece... she has to solve now.
And she does! THE MOMENT OF TRUTH IS STRANGER THAN FICTION for an easy $2,000 and everyone is on the board.
Lynn: $2,000
Mark: $5,900
Kathleen: $2,750
Bankrupts: 1 (Kathleen - $9,100)
Lose a Turns: 0
Duds: 0
Missolves: 0
And it's time for Round 4, with the $5,000 wedge on the wheel, along with a Trip to Laguna Beach and a visit to the Laguna Art Festival worth $3,820 (marked Festival on the wheel)! And the Round 4 puzzle's category is an Event (again).
A rare three liner in the fourth round... Lynn starts with three Rs on $250 before giving back the $750 to Bankrupt. Mark lights up a $700 N before we go into Speedup mode. Pat gives the wheel a final spin and consonants are worth... well, nothing the first time, thank Bankrupt. He gives the wheel another spin and now they are worth... $800 a piece. After Mark and Kathleen light up the T and Ss, Lynn calls the D and solves.
She is not UNDER HOUSE ARREST, but that solve got her $800, putting her in second place by $50.
Lynn: $2,800 (3-day winnings total: $22,650)
Mark: $5,900
Kathleen: $2,750
Main Game Winnings: $11,450
Bankrupts: 1 (Lynn - $750)
Lose a Turns: 0
Duds: 0
Missolves: 0
Mark has won $5,900 from Round 1 and he would like to add a nice Bonus Round prize on top of that. There are three prizes available for him: a precious metal package, a driving vacation to San Francisco, and a sailing vacation. Out of the remaining available envelopes (first E, second E, and L), he chooses the L. Now he has to solve the Bonus Round puzzle which is a Phrase.
After RSTLNE, he has this to work with.
Not much help from that, so he decides to choose CBMI.
Which doesn't help much either! He couldn't get it and hopefully he doesn't BLOW UP in rage when he finds out that he lost the precious metals. But he wins $5,900 and returns on the next WoF episode.
