Daytime Wheel of Fortune (First Day with Vanna White as Permanent Hostess) - Original Airdate 12/13/1982
Look at this studio, filled with fabulous and exciting merchandise including... a trip to London... a gorgeous 9-karat amethyst ring... and a beautiful brass canopy bed! Over $49,000 just waiting to be won today - it's Philadelphia Week on Wheel of Fortune! Here's Pat out to host, but who's that coming after him? It's not Susan, nor is it any of the temporary letter turners - it's our new hostess, Vanna White!
Let's meet the players for her historic first episode as permanent mistress of the puzzleboard:
Robin Surface, our returning champion with a two-day total of $11,150 in prizes
Louis Vanzone, who seems to be a fan favorite and is, of course, from Philadelphia
Linda Andriata, a real estate salesperson from Ship Bottom, New Jersey
ROUND 1:
$750 is the top dollar value for our first round. Watch out for the old black BANKRUPT, else you lose all your cash, but not your merchandise, because once you buy a prize, it's yours to keep, and Vanna is very happy for you. Let's see her first puzzle as a permanent member of the Wheel family!

TITLE
Robin, our champion, has the right to lead off and so she shall, sending the wheel to $300 and giving Vanna her first official letter to turn - a single T. Her next spin just makes it two pegs into the $350 behind Bankrupt, so she'll get an N for that amount. After buying the E and spinning a couple more times, she flirts with Lose a Turn this time and only makes it one peg away to the $450 for the pair of L's. She buys the two A's and then collects a FREE SPIN, which lets her re-spin the wheel for a $500 S. Her next spin is one peg short of the big $750... instead it's a $175 G. She calls for "one more spin" and the Press Your Luck Curse nearly nails her, but her spin just makes the last peg out of Bankrupt into $350 for the H. No more dramatic spins for her... she will solve:
G E N E R A L
H _ S _ _ T A L
TITLE
and we won't be carting her off to the GENERAL HOSPITAL... instead Robin banks $2,275!
PERFECT ROUND!
Our first shopping trip of the day is with Robin into the Luxury Bath. She'll be buying the $1,299 armoire, a $584 handbag/scarf package, some ladies' shoes for $245, and beauty appliances for $86, putting $61 on a gift certificate.
Robin: $2,275 + Free Spin
Louis: gets to touch the wheel at last
Linda: still waiting patiently for her first turn as well
ROUND 2:
$1,000 is the top dollar, and a second Bankrupt has landed on the wheel. Here's our next puzzle, and boy is it big!

QUOTATION
Louis, our fan favorite, will get his first wheel touch of the game, and it's by the $1,000 but short of the $300 - $150 each for a whole passel of T's - EIGHT of them for a $1,200 start! Next, he'll buy a half dozen E's to go with them! His second spin is better than the first - $600 each for a trio of N's, bringing him to $2,750 at the moment, which nearly gets flushed because Louis is flirting with that Bankrupt, but it's $600 again (barely) for the W after he buys the O. But now it's break time... turn your backs as we go to a puzzleboard shot:
O N E / _ _ T T _ E
T W O / _ _ T T _ E
T _ _ E E / _ _ T T _ E
_ N _ _ _ N _
QUOTATION
Back to the show, and back to Louis, who will solve right away... and ONE LITTLE TWO LITTLE THREE LITTLE INDIANS is right for $3,100!
PERFECT ROUND!
Louis will take his money into the Collector's Corner! With it, he buys the rocking chairs for $549, the braided rug for $300, a guitar for $500, the cedar chest for $504, the curio cabinet for $840, the Christmas box for $95, the tavern sign for $210, and the Christmas stockings for $28. After that buying spree, $74 will go on a gift certificate.
Robin: $2,275 + Free Spin
Louis: $3,100
Linda: gooseegg alert
ROUND 3 (Partial Speedup):
$2,000 and $1,500 are waiting to be hit in this and any future rounds... meanwhile, look at Vanna modeling that Mazda pickup truck!

PHRASE
Linda finally gets a turn in this game, and she begins by finding three N's on $300 and buying a pair of I's. She'll then flirt with Bankrupt herself but clear it to the $600 for three T's... but she's used all our time!
_ I _ N / _ N / T _ _
_ _ T T _ _ / _ I N E
PHRASE
Pat will look for the big money as he makes the final spin, but we're well past both $2,000 and $1,500, by the Bankrupt and just hanging on to $700. Linda puts up an H but has no guess, while Robin gets the L and will solve:
_ I _ N / _ N / T H _
_ _ T T _ _ / L I N E
PHRASE
and she will have Merv take a check and SIGN ON THE DOTTED LINE for $700!
ALMOST-PERFECT ROUND! (no duds, only change of possession was during speedup)
Robin takes that $700 into the Lovers' Retreat and buy herself a tea/coffee set for $300, the phone and answering machine for $170, a basket for $37, and a wall barometer for $179, which means $14 goes on the day's last gift certificate.
Robin: $2,975 (retired with a three-day total of $14,125, Free Spin goes unused)
Louis: $3,100
Linda: GOOSEEGG'D
Robin comes up just short of being an undefeated champion, so Louis will play the Bonus Round!
BONUS ROUND:
Louis has elected to play for the trip to London valued at $3,276... Dim the lights!

He mutters under his breath for the 15 seconds but can't come up with GEORGE BERNARD SHAW. No trip to London for Louis, but $3,100 in prizes and a return on the next day's show are his to keep!
