Nighttime Wheel of Fortune - Original Airdate 5/5/1986 (Season 3)
Look at this studio, filled with fabulous and exciting merchandise such as... a charming $15,000 breakfast nook... a pink coral and diamond flower clip... a $2,750 console piano... over $103,000 just waiting to be won on WHEEL! OF! FORTUNE!
Let's meet our three players for the night:
Ken Ruderman, a soon-to-graduate finance student at George Washington University
John Pierce, a longtime vegetarian from Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Andra Betteridge, a cosmetic consultant and mother of three from Sandy, Utah
ROUND 1:
$1,000 is the top dollar for Round 1 at night, but our players still have to watch out for Bankrupt. Their merchandise is safe though, because once it's bought, it can't be repossessed (except by the IRS).

PHRASE
Ken will begin our gameplay by spinning $200 for a pair of T's. He's finding consonants in pairs and vowels in triplets as he lights up some S's, O's, I's, N's, and R's while flirting with both Bankrupt AND Lose a Turn! He finally breaks his pattern by only finding two E's, but his turn continues and he will collect a FREE SPIN which could help him along the way! After adding the A's and P's to the board, he's ready to solve...
I T ' S / S O
_ _ I E T / _ O _
_ A N / _ E A R
A / P I N / _ R O P
PHRASE
and as he does so, IT'S SO QUIET YOU CAN HEAR A PIN DROP as he collects $1,900!
PERFECT ROUND!
Ken will be our first shopper as he enters the Breakfast Nook. His purchases are a new Tappan refrigerator for $1,190 (for his mother), a man's watch for $385, a cat lithograph for $172, and party services for $150, leaving $3 for the Gucci gift certificate (good luck finding anything Gucci for $3 though).
Ken: $1,900 + Free Spin
John: will get a turn next round
Andra: will get a turn eventually
ROUND 2:
$1,000 is still the top dollar, but we add a nice prize:
it's a James Mini Car valued at $1,995!

FICTIONAL CHARACTER
Someone other than Ken will touch the wheel now - it's John, and he gets a couple of $200 N's to start. He pulls this next spin out of Bankrupt for a trio of $400 R's - up to $1,600 already! His next spin is only $150 - but it's the $150 under the MINI CAR! He picks up that prize (plus $150 for a T) and is finished already:
T _ _ / R _ _ _
R _ N N _ R
FICTIONAL CHARACTER
John won't be making like THE ROAD RUNNER - that mini car he's just won only goes 20 MPH - but he also bags $1,750 in cash this round!
PERFECT ROUND!
John will shop in the Home Entertainment Center now, and he's buying the laserdisc player for $799 and the $569 stereo. He's making a bold move with that remaining $382 though - it's going ON ACCOUNT!
Ken: $1,900 + Free Spin
John: $3,363 ($382 ON ACCOUNT)
Andra: still waiting to get in the game
ROUND 3:
$5,000 is glittering away in its normal place - $1,500's not too shabby either!
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ / _ _ _ _ _ _ _
PHRASE
Andra finally gets a turn now, but it won't last very long... it's BANKRUPT right out of the gate. Ken wants to make up some ground, and he's holding a Free Spin which may help him - which he'll be using it right away, as there are no T's for $500. He converts the next spin in a big way - it's $1,500 for FOUR N's - that's $6,000! It's no longer his turn though as he calls the bad R, so John gets a chance to try and claim the $382 he has ON ACCOUNT. He'll put $500 in his regular bank before running afoul of the old yellow LOSE A TURN. Andra gets her second chance to make some money, and this is even bigger than Ken's spin - $5,000 for a trio of S's and $15,000 total! She buys the four O's and single E, puts up a $550 C, and then calls an L at the worst possible time to lose her turn. Ken would like to solve rather than spin:
C O N S E N S _ S
O F / O _ _ N _ O N
PHRASE
and his guess and the solution meet with a CONSENSUS OF OPINION, giving him $6,000 more!
Duds: T (Ken - Free Spin used), R (Ken), L (Andra)
Bankrupt: Andra (loss of turn)
Lose a Turn: John
Ken will take that 6 grand into the Garden Patio. He'll buy that $2,750 piano from the intro, the $1,560 china, the camera for $406, tires for $240, and the ladies' golf clubs for $795 (as a gift for somebody), which leaves $249 on a gift certificate to add to the $3 from earlier.
Ken: $7,900
John: $3,363 ($382 ON ACCOUNT)
Andra: gooseegg alert
ROUND 4 (Full Speedup):
Everything's still the same... except the time! We'll speed things up and play for a Cartier gift certificate instead of shopping. And on that gift certificate, we will multiply the number of consonants by a very nice $1,500!

THING
Short puzzle, and Ken starts it with a T. On the third pass, Ken puts up two E's and sounds out NEXT, but can't compose a complete guess. John gets the S and will solve:
N E S T
E _ _
THING
It's a nice NEST EGG which gives him $1,500 and lets him claim the $382 that was ON ACCOUNT!
Duds: C (John), D (Ken), R (John), L (Andra)
Missed Solve: Ken with NEXT
Ken: $7,900
John: $5,245 (ON ACCOUNT money claimed)
Andra: GOOSEEGG'D
Ken had that big third round, and he might get a big Bonus Round too!
BONUS ROUND:
Ken has elected to play for the big red car - a Pontiac Fiero worth $16,415... Dim the lights!
_ _ / _ _
_ _ _ ' _ / _ _ _
PHRASE
Ken wants the standard package of STRLN and E:
_ T / _ _
_ _ T ' S / E N _
PHRASE
Ken sounds out a lot of different combinations, including the somewhat nasty AT MY CAT'S END, before getting out AT MY... before the buzzer and WIT'S END after it. We're going to do a stop-down and check the tapes, and he did indeed get AT MY WIT'S END for the car and a very nice total of $24,315 in prizes!
