Daytime Wheel of Fortune - Original Airdate 5/27/1991
The famous Wheel is spinning, spinning, spinning, and the players are winning, winning, winning NBC's money here on WHEEL! OF! SLIGHTLY LESS CHEAPNESS!
Let's rejoin our champion and meet her challengers:
Suanne Mrugacz, our two-day champion with $18,833 in cash, prizes, and car
Steve Poitier, a cameraman for a commercial company - originally from Detroit
Danette Auxier, an elementary school teacher and new mother from Fountain Valley, CA
ROUND 1:
$500 is the top dollar for the first two rounds. We also have a prize:
a "macho man" package - Gold's Gym merchandise, TurboSpa, and rechargeable shaver worth $750!
_ _ ' _ / _
_ _ _ _ _ _
PHRASE
Suanne has moved to the first position here and begins with a $100 S. Her next spin is as good as it gets though - a single $500 T! She buys the I, but can't find any N's, so we go on to Steve. No L's for him, but one R for Danette and she has $100. She adds a B, A, and Z... but now we're out of consonants:
I T ' S / A
B R _ _ Z _
PHRASE
so she'll solve IT'S A BREEZE for $250!
Duds: N (Suanne), L (Steve)
Suanne: good spins, bad results
Steve: one spin, one dud
Danette: $250
ROUND 2:
Same wheel, except for this new prize:
a cherry secretary desk, word processor, and lamp valued at $1,475!
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ / _ _
_ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ _
PHRASE
Same category as before, but a new player starting it... Steve begins with a bang - it's the DESK which he picks up with an N! He'll get a $125 S before calling the dud R. Danette spins with the lead and she gets several letters up... none of which is an M. Champ Suanne gets her next turn, until she calls for the bad L. Back to Steve who holds the desk prize, but he doesn't find any D's, so he'll wait for Danette to miss with the B and Suanne with the F so he can get his turn back and whiff with W. No J's for Danette, but Suanne finally breaks through with two $175 C's and a trio of $200 P's...
P _ C _ _ N G / _ P
T H _ / P _ _ C _ S
PHRASE
and she's PICKING UP THE PIECES of this Round of Duds for $950!
Duds: R (Steve), M (Danette), L (Suanne), D (Steve), B (Danette), F (Suanne), W (Steve)
Suanne: $950
Steve: lost the desk
Danette: $250
ROUND 3:
$1,000 is the top dollar now, and another prize is out there:
it's a tube boat retailing for $1,895!
_ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _
_ _ / _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ / _ _ _ / _ _ _ _
_ _ / _ _ _ _ _ _
CLUE
Well, that's more like it - a big puzzle with the Clue bonus at the end! Danette will take control first in this round, and a trio of $250 T's will make a nice beginning for her. She picks an H based on the T location, but it's not where she expected. She then gets four N's... for only $100 each, but it leads her to the logical pair of D's. Her next spin is a good one - it's the BOAT, which she bags with the sole R! She'll buy the E trio next, but easy makes the money back with two Y's. Next it's EIGHT O's to fill up the puzzleboard quickly, followed by a W. She would like to attempt a solve:
T W O / _ T O _ _
O _ / H Y D R O _ E N
_ N D / O N E / _ T O _
O _ / O _ Y _ E N
CLUE
and her recipe is TWO ATOMS OF HYDROGEN AND ONE ATOM OF OXYGEN to make herself a batch of $2,050 plus the boat, which comes on handy on the Clue's answer - WATER for a bonus of $250!
PERFECT ROUND!
Suanne: $950
Steve: gooseegg alert
Danette: $4,445 cash and boat
ROUND 4 (Partial Speedup):
$1,250 and $750 are on the wheel, as is our final prize:
a five-day trip to New York coming in at $4,080!
_ / _ _ _ / _ _
_ _ _ / _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
BEFORE & AFTER
Suanne will need to pick it up if she wants to retire undefeated... $100 is not the best number to hit, but three T's will start her bank building. She gets to the $600 for a pair of N's though, which is good money! She gets a few more letters up, but our time has run out... here's the speedup board:
_ / _ _ _ / _ N
T H E / _ _ _ _
S T R E E T
_ _ _ R N _ _
BEFORE & AFTER
Bob will spin his best... and $500 isn't too shabby if we can find letters! Steve find the four L's, but it's Suanne who thinks she knows it after three full passes:
A / F L _ / _ N
T H E / W A L L
S T R E E T
J _ _ R N A L
BEFORE & AFTER
and A FLY ON THE WALL STREET JOURNAL gets her $3,350 - but it's not enough by $145, Danette's the new champ!
Sole Dud (post-speedup): D (Suanne)
DQ: Steve's repeated D
Suanne: $4,300 (retired with $23,133 cash, prizes, and car)
Steve: GOOSEEGG'D
Danette: $4,445 cash and boat
Danette will try to add to her bankroll in Bonusland!

THING
RSTLNE will give her some help:

S _ _ _ E
THING
MBPA will get her only one letter more...
_ _ N _ _ _
S _ A _ E
THING
She has absolutely no guess, so she will not be getting the correct answer of WINDOW SHADE. No $5,000 for her, but $4,445 in cash and boat, plus a place on the next program!
