St. Louis news station KSDK went behind the scenes at Wheel all throughout this week. Here are five stories they did, all with video. General Behind-the-ScenesVanna InterviewPat InterviewThe Wheel Hall of FamePat, Vanna, & Harry Friedman on TapingMy Comments: - Notice how Pat uses cue cards during the beginning of the Bonus Round segment. - Wonder what happened that Friday's closing took three takes. Wish they showed them without the anchor talking over them. - Um, you can't know how many monitors there are on the board without having to read about it? - The "W" slide on the last surviving piece of the manual puzzle board is backwards... - What's that white, pillow-shaped thing in front of the trilon? - Is that lit thing on top of the trilon the light that went inside it? - Was that Jackpot wedge ever used?

I remember Sheldon. I guess that dates me, too.
Thanks for the links, Mario.

The pillow-shaped thing in front of the trilon seems to be a football with a bunch of signatures on it. No idea whose signatures, but I'm going to speculate and say that it might be some of the players from an NFL Players Week that could've signed a ball, considering that their pictures are also shown in the Hall of Fame.
The lit thing does indeed look like it would be the lightbulb housing that would go inside the trilon. I've never seen it in person, but I don't know how it could be anything else.
As for the Jackpot wedge, I don't know for certain, but I don't recall such a wedge ever being used - it's way too glittery and unlike the known ones (perhaps a design model?). However, the little "Jackpot" light box in front of it looks like it might be the actual one from the 1998-2003 wedge.
Thanks for the links - I live just outside the St. Louis market, so I never even knew that this set of news stories existed! Great find, Mario!

Interesting to learn that Vanna does not have her own microphone.

At least the last two videos had insanely-low audio. My computer audio and speaker audio were up to max plus the video player's audio...and it was still barely audible! * The behind-the-scenes video was kind of lame, especially since they didn't bother explaining why the first close took three tries. * Pat is, as usual, pretty light-hearted and candid about his role. * Herr von Friedman's responsible for making sure Wheel never gets stale?! HA!(Seriously, though -- offering nothing but trips/cars/cash gets old, and so does the Trip Puzzle being What Are You Doing? with gratuitous phraseology more than 90% of the time {the fact that the Prize Puzzle graphic has used globes and compasses in the past seems to be them noting the fact and saying "We don't care."}. Also, having a theme for every single week; it's okay to just play the game {and no, "America's Game" doesn't count} with no gimmicks or theme to string the puzzles together.) * Being co-admin of the History Wiki and a lover of all things classic about Wheel, I decided to save the "Hall of Fame" video for last as a sort of reward. Other than a mention of the show's actual debut year and full name-drops of Chuck and Susan (yay!), there wasn't too much to get excited about -- certainly nothing I could use on the Wiki. The Jackpot wedge is the ninth design (2006-08). If somebody's gone to the Hall of Fame and could post some high-quality close-ups of that stuff, I'd appreciate it. * Final Thought: Overall, pretty lame. MarioGS: Please do not make remarks like that towards show staff. Who knows if they lurk these boards every now and then?-Understood, sir.

Nothing really too special about the stories, however they provide information many Wheel Watchers not in the know about how things are done. No surprise there's no mention about how, apart from taping weeks with six episodes, they tape the weeks out of airing order.
If they were still using the 1989-92 opening spiel today, it would probably now be something like: "From our studios in Culver City, one of America's most loved shows! The famous Wheel is spinning your way, with lots of cash and fabulous and exciting trips and cars! And now, ladies and gentlemen, Pat Sajak and Vanna White!"
Focusing on offering (mostly) trips and cars as it is now definitely makes the show stale. Even more so if shopping rounds were still around.

No surprise there's no mention about how, apart from taping weeks with six episodes, they tape the weeks out of airing order. I didn't expect them to since at least three Secret Santa episodes were rescheduled from the airdates given in-studio. There's also that inexplicable dubbing obsession last season which some fans (including myself) yelled pretty loudly about; I'm fully aware of the Charlie tribute party they had back in July, but why haven't they shared the video shown during it? (Then again, I never expected the show to admit that line at the bottom of my signature, but they did.) Focusing on offering (mostly) trips and cars as it is now definitely makes the show stale. The funny thing is, I addressed this directly to the show's Twitter account on October 26 and they never replied. Furniture, boats, motorcycles, spas, artwork, pianos, annuities, computers, high-tech packages, precious metals, jewelry, etc. would help greatly to, among other things, make the Prize Puzzle and Mystery Round offer something different and return variety to the Bonus Round (where it's been lacking since at least 2001). Another problem is that Wheel looks like all the other million-dollar game shows with sparse, dark sets; it doesn't help that they ditched "Changing Keys" and the concept of returning players long ago. (On a side note, I'm curious to know whether Wheel's aware of the History Wiki, and what they think about it.)

I just came across the videos. I have a friend who works at KSDK and he said that interview was one of the most memorable ones in the history of KSDK

Justin, you have bumped 2 threads that are both several months old since they've had their last posts. Please refrain from doing so unless you have relevant important information to share. Thank you.

If they let me, I would take picture after picture on my 3DS in the Wheel Walk of Fame. I might as well live in California when I get older.
