Nighttime Wheel of Fortune - Original Airdate 3/14/86 (Season 3)
Look at this studio, filled with fabulous and exciting merchandise including... a high-performing $15,000 sports car... a sensational $13,000 diamond necklace... and a fantastic week-long trip to Japan! Over $123,000 up for grabs tonight on WHEEL! OF! FORTUNE!
Let's meet tonight's three players:
Dick Drury, a stockbroker from Sacramento
Diane Hill, an educational sales representative and mother of two
Betty Grugan, a professional artist from Liberty, Georgia
ROUND 1:
$1,000 is the top dollar value for the first two rounds. Watch out for the old black BANKRUPT else you'll lose your cash, but not your merchandise, because once a prize is bought, it's yours forever.

_ _ _ _ _
PERSON
Dick will kick off the game with a spin of $400 for absolutely no T's. Diane gets a nice pickup right away - a FREE SPIN! She follows it with a D and two N's (both on $300), but duds out with the Y and elects to hold the Free Spin. Betty will take her first attempt, and it's one R for $450, but there's no S. Dick's spin just flops into the big $1,000... to increase his pain of calling the bad L. Diane also hits the $1,000 - but there's also no C, so she must hand in her Free Spin for another chance, which lets her buy the dud E. Back to Betty, who gets no G's, and then Dick, who's K.O.'d by the bad K. Diane hands it on with the dud H, and back again to Betty who calls V in vain. Dick finally breaks the pattern - by hitting LOSE A TURN. Diane will try yet again and break through by buying the I, however Lose a Turn gets her too, so Betty has the next chance. She fails with the F, so it's around to Dick who gets the P and M - the last two consonants:
P R I M _
D _ N N _
PERSON
and PRIMA DONNA puts this Round of Duds out of its misery - $500 for Dick!

Dick will go shopping in the Fun on Wheels area - he buys sportswear for $300 and a 12-speed bicycle for $185, leaving $15 for tonight's first gift certificate.
Dick: $500
Diane: had a Free Spin, used it poorly... no money for that
Betty: the only one to avoid Lose a Turn... no money either
ROUND 2:
$1,000 is still the top dollar - and here comes a prize:
an 18-karat gold Piaget watch worth a massive $8,900!

THINGS
Diane is going to start this round - hopefully it's better than the last. Her first spin is a great one - she hits the WATCH! It goes into her bank, and there's one S for the $150 underneath. She just stays out of Bankrupt with her next spin - it's $250 each for FIVE T'S! She takes the logical H next, also for $250, but then she gives up her turn with the bad B. Betty gets a couple R's at $400 each before picking up the LOSE A TURN she avoided last round. Dick will spin with his small lead, and again he calls the last pair of consonants...
L _ T T _ R S
T _ / T H _
_ D _ T _ R
THINGS
and LETTERS TO THE EDITOR earn him $700 more!
Sole Dud: B (Diane)
Lose a Turn: Betty
Dick goes shopping again, in the Pool Room this time. Sheldon the ceramic Dalmatian is out there, but he won't be adopted tonight, because Dick has enough money for just the $660 curio cabinet, putting $40 on another gift certificate.
Dick: $1,200
Diane: painful loss of the watch
Betty: unlucky loss of turn
ROUND 3:
$5,000 is the best money the show has to give!

PHRASE
Betty would like to get some cash and stave off the gooseegg, but she'll begin by passing to Dick - she picks up her second LOSE A TURN. Dick gets a single T, which gives him $350 to lose to BANKRUPT on his next spin. Diane wants some money, and a $900 N is a good start. She gets a couple G's and buys the O (four of them) and I (just one) before spinning up the second-best number of $1,500... and calling a dud L. Betty gets a $500 M before running afoul of Lose a Turn yet again - her third in two rounds! Dick puts up an S and a pair of R's, then decides to end it:
