Daytime Wheel of Fortune - Original Airdate 9/3/1982
Clarification on the date: This episode was originally thought to be March 12 (possibly rerun in September), but later investigation based on the commercials in the source video leads us to believe the September airdate was in fact the correct one.
Look at this studio, filled with fabulous prizes including... beautiful bedroom furniture... a stunning amethyst and pearl necklace... even a family room! Altogether, over $39,000 in merchandise just waiting to be won on Wheel of Fortune!
Let's meet our champ and challengers:
Beverly Atkins, a one-day champion with $7,250 in prizes
Dorian Downs (female), a mother of two and Dodger fan from South Jordan, Utah
Bill Ballou, a quality control foreman and father of three boys
ROUND 1:
$750 is the top dollar for the first round. Watch out for that black BANKRUPT, because when it's hit, a player loses all their cash, but not their merchandise... once they buy a prize, it's theirs for good.

PERSON
Beverly, our champ, drew #1, so that means she starts the game (standing next to Pat, who drew #4) and she does so by hitting $450 for a single S. Her next spin is just slow enough to hold on to LOSE A TURN though, so it goes to Dorian. She finds an N and R, but no T's means we pass on to Bill long enough to dud the L (which, oddly enough, Pat says had already been called - seems the ULB operator was just quick to put the letter up). Back to Beverly, who's unlucky on back-to-back spins... BANKRUPTing her $450 this time, so we proceed to Dorian. She avoids Beverly's fate by sliding by Bankrupt but misses with the M and it's Bill's turn again long enough for him to lose it - the wheel is dangerous this round! Beverly tries to start again, but there is no H - likewise Dorian asks for the bad B. Bill Bankrupts to lose his turn yet again, so we go back to Beverly yet again who duds the D. Dorian spends the only available money (her $250) on an O and gets just the single one, so we're back to spinning and popping the bad P. Back to Bill and to widespread cheering, he finds a $100 C. A few letters later and we're down to vowels:

PERSON
and he solves REGGIE JACKSON for $800 to end the nightmarish first round!
Duds: T (Dorian), L (Bill), M (Dorian), H (Beverly), B (Dorian), D (Beverly), P (Dorian)
Lose a Turn: Beverly, Bill
Bankrupt: Beverly ($450), Bill (loss of turn)
Bill will shop first today in the Family Room. He buys the $665 recliner and $50 silver serving plate, putting $85 on a Giorgio gift certificate.
Beverly: two duds, two penalties
Dorian: four duds
Bill: $800
ROUND 2:
$1,000 is the top dollar, and there's a second Bankrupt - not sure we need that...

THING
Dorian will start this round off, hoping to do better than the last one. She gets a couple $400 T's, matching the most money anyone's had all day so far! No H's though, so that money will be waiting on her to get her turn back. Over to Bill, who puts up lots of letters before failing on the F to leave $3,400 sitting through the commercial - turn your backs!

THING
We're back, and Beverly barely clears Lose a Turn to the $800 only to lose her turn with no L. Dorian tries again and gets a G up before buying the E, O, and A's and then BANKRUPTing her last $450. Bill is back in the game and he finds C's and M's (a pair of each, the latter on $800) before solving:

THING
and solve he does with STRATEGIC AIR COMMAND for a whopping $5,800 more!
Duds: H (Dorian), F (Bill), L (Beverly)
Bankrupt: Dorian ($450)
Bill is back to shopping in the Camping Fun Center. He wants the $1,134 three-wheeler, $570 watches, $370 tents, $500 guitar, $765 sailboat, Western clothes for $325, luggage for $300, the $300 metal detector, $200 of Kentucky Fried Chicken, a $130 scanning radio, and the $103 fishing equipment. This leaves a massive $1,103 on a gift certificate, since he passed up on the dude ranch and Vermont trips hanging above the showcase (he could've bought both with $5,800 and had plenty left over).
Beverly: gooseegg alert
Dorian: gooseegg alert
Bill: $6,600
ROUND 3 (Full Speedup):
The tandem of $2,000 and $1,500 are on the wheel now! Unfortunately, that super-long first round took all our time, so Pat spins $500 and all money earned goes on a Giorgio gift certificate.
