So I was on Twitter this evening and noticed for probably the first time ever that Wheel was trending worldwide. However, about half the tweets weren't very nice. Among the general comments (sort of paraphrasing actual tweets, not copy/paste): "Why is Wheel of Fortune trending?" "nobody over 7 or under 74 watches wheel of fortune lol" "I HAAAAAAATE wheel of fortune...jeopardy >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> wheel of fortune" "Wheel of Fortune is trending. Senior citizens would be happy." "Does anybody even watch Wheel of Fortune anymore besides grandmas?" "Watching Wheel of Fortune. Someone please kill me." "why tf am i watching wheel of fortune" It really disturbs me that so many people don't appreciate Wheel for the right reasons. All these "old people" comments make no sense. The contestants aren't usually "old", so what does that say? It kind of bothers me that a lot of people act like it's uncool or stupid to like or even watch Wheel. I was ridiculed as a kid/adolescent, and still am somewhat today for my love for Wheel. They think I'm weird because I like it so much (well, except when they see me play. Then they shut up. ) But anyway, why does Wheel have this kind of semi-negative reputation if it's doing so successful on TV? They have to be doing something right. I know everyone and everything is hated one once in a while, but for such an institution to get such hateful comments is uncalled for. IT'S JUST A TV SHOW!! A TV show does not determine your age, sexuality, mental state, or anything. Can't people learn to respect other people's opinion and get along (yes, I respect these people's opinions if they don't like Wheel, but they don't have to be disrespectful about it, especially the people that bash it only because they like Jeopardy! better...)?

Only old people watch Wheel? The ratings beg to differ.Seriously...ignore them. Wheel is consistently on the top of the syndicated ratings, and draws better numbers than many popular network programs. I admit that I don't watch Wheel much due to a variety of reasons, and I do tend to enjoy Jeopardy more, but the fact that it's been on the air for 35 years says something. Don't let it get to you, Mario. Continue being a great Wheel Watcher, and don't worry about what others think. Also, ignore Twitter...

I would, but it's the best place for Wheel news, especially Wheelmobile events. More reliable than Google when it comes to that. Plus, it was how I found out about the whole Secret Santa re-scheduling thing.

I'm at the point where I enjoy Jeopardy! more too (unlike Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy! has mostly kept it simple), but Wheel of Fortune is still worth the watch. The ageist comments against the WoF fan base are nowhere near acceptable.

When I first saw this topic, I thought it was going to be "vent your frustrations" or something like "ask friends what they think is wrong". Still... The contestants aren't usually "old", so what does that say? To me, it says that the show would prefer not to have older players even though (as has been proven many times over the past 60 years) the two demographics nobody seems to care about are the most fun to watch on game shows. (I'm still wondering why children haven't been allowed to play in the 13 years since Wheel 2000 {and why being on that cheapo version bans them for life}. After all, Jeopardy! began doing Kids Weeks almost immediately after Jep! was canned.) But anyway, why does Wheel have this kind of semi-negative reputation if it's doing so successful on TV? They have to be doing something right. I may dislike several things about modern Wheel, viewpoints I know are shared by several others here, but I still respect its longevity and contributions. I love older episodes, but so-so for more recent ones. People of all ages and walks of life love Wheel, and it's indeed the world's game, but the Twitter people you mention...sheesh. IT'S JUST A TV SHOW!! A TV show does not determine your age, sexuality, mental state, or anything. In my opinion, it really depends on the show and viewer in question.

After seeing those tweet paraphrases, I'd like to say how off base they are (especially the ageist comments)-but I would like to admit that I believe Wheel isn't quite what it used to be.

It's a pity that fewer people seem to like the show, and even when I was young I've always had the impression that "no one likes it simply because I like it." I'm glad there are some who share common interests as me with the Internet proving it. Despite that, one of my YouTube videos of me playing Wheel for the Wii was recently attacked by very rude and insulting comments as well as numerous dislikes. The trolling comments were so severe that I had to privatize the video. To add insult to injury, replies were made to these rude comments saying they were the best YouTube comments ever made. I felt hurt, but I pity these people for not knowing better than to do something like this. If you don't like it, you don't have to watch it, but please don't tell other people to hate it either. That's not fair at all.

Maybe that's the problem. Wheel's been at #1 so long they're resting on their laurels.
Removed unnecessary quote, it ain't necessary to quote someone directly above you.

^I think that's why they've gone stale with the prize selections, and I'm willing to bet it's by choice.
(I also notice that Mr. Hall edited his post shortly after making it; considering this thread, I'd love to know what it originally said.)
