According to the alt.tv.game-shows on Google Groups, Terry's $62,400 loss wasn't the only big, huge loss of money.
Apparantly, at one point during the shopping era, a contestant racked up $60,000+ on the puzzle STAR LIGHT STAR BRIGHT FIRST STAR I SEE TONIGHT. The letter I wasn't revealed and the contestant decided to finally solve the puzzle, but accidentally left out the "I" and was disqualified and the next contestant immediately solved the puzzle for, like, $200.

Could it be that this did, indeed, happen, but no one recorded it or remembers it?
