As most of you know, next season will be WHEEL OF FORTUNE'S 30th Anniversary. And most of us, including myself of course, have asked time and time again, "Should the 1989-1992 Theme be reinstated or remixed for the 30th Anniversary?" Most have said "Yes" and others "No".
Now we may hear the 1989-1992 Theme Song of WHEEL OF FORTUNE on the 30th Anniversary, then again we may not. It's one of the best ways to eliminate the current theme song which has been played for almost six years now.
So, I ask you. Besides the 1989-1992 theme of WHEEL OF FORTUNE, do you know of any popular song from the 80s or early 90s that would make a perfect choice for WHEEL OF FORTUNE during the 30th Anniversary?
For example, my ideas were Teena Marie's "Square Biz" or even Gloria Estefan's "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You".
What ideas do you have in mind?

Wasn't Square Biz used for Hollywood Squares for a while? Yeah, I'm pretty sure that Sony would want to fork out licensing money for a song, that is probably already in peoples' minds from another game show. Plus, I really don't think that we need to get a song that people know. My top four favourite themes were 1) Australian Wheel theme (of course ;D) 2) The 1992-1994 US Wheel theme (love the funkiness of it, and I did personally the "dancing wedges" intro) 3) The 1997-2000 US Wheel theme 4) The re-mixed "Happy Wheels" that was played in Season 24 (and sometimes in Season 25, I think?) If they really wanted to do a new theme, they'd most likely get someone like Steve Kaplan or John Hoke (is that his name?) to do a new theme, and even if they did, it'd probably be a re-arranged version of the theme we're currently hearing.

While I'd love to hear a different theme for Season 30, the reality, as discussed in a previous thread, is that the show is unlikely to revive Changing Keys. No matter how you rearrange the song, its not being used for a long time, especially in favor of a different theme, is going to make it feel dated. That's why the Dawson/Combs/whichever theme music for Family Feud, while good in my opinion, feels out of place to me when I hear it in a newer FF episode—a new one was put in place when they revived it with Louie Anderson and that's the one I expect to hear in first-run now.
I'm not saying that it's not doable—look at Jeopardy!, or if you want a non-game show example, Hawaii Five-O—but it can be very hard to accept.

I could more easily see them mixing the current theme as opposed to reinstating and old theme. It would be a nice touch. I think the set deserves and upgrade, too.

The set just got updated about a year ago. So, probably not going to happen.

That's why the Dawson/Combs/whichever theme music for Family Feud, while good in my opinion, feels out of place to me when I hear it in a newer FF episode I and various others have suggested Feud grab the 1994/"Dawson's Return" music package. Wasn't Square Biz used for Hollywood Squares for a while? The last two seasons (2002-04), although predecessor "I Love Hollywood" made a cameo for an intro during "It Just Ain't Right!" Week near the end of the run. the show is unlikely to revive Changing Keys. No matter how you rearrange the song, its not being used for a long time, especially in favor of a different theme, is going to make it feel dated. I thought the reason they ditched "Changing Keys" and Merv's other cues was because they're too cheap to pay royalties...despite Jeopardy! retaining the main theme and "Think!" cue -- sure, they've remixed them time and again, but both are still easily recognizable. The only things Wheel's kept are most of the 1989 sound effects, because they insist on music during the Speed-Up and Bonus Round. The last time they used "Changing Keys" was in 2000, when about five seconds was put at the beginning before "degenerating" into the first iteration of "generic crap theme". Indeed, Wheel is about the same as The Price Is Right -- the good, recognizable cues get thrown out in favor of generic crap because 1) cheap and 2) trying to be "hip".

Changing Keys will always be the most identified theme song associated with Wheel of Fortune because like Jeopardy!'s theme, it's an awesome and memorable tune. Specifically the 1983-1994 style. I never cared too much about the current theme, but the 2006 version is WEAK! Yes, Sony and Harry Friedman should bring "Changing Keys" back with the 1983-1994 melody, but with a new arrangement similar to what they did with the Jeopardy! theme. That would be great for the 30th anniversary. While I'd love to hear a different theme for Season 30, the reality, as discussed in a previous thread, is that the show is unlikely to revive Changing Keys. No matter how you rearrange the song, its not being used for a long time, especially in favor of a different theme, is going to make it feel dated. If anything is dated, it's that big band sound that the show has been using for 17 years. The mid-90's brought back the big band sound with Jim Carrey's The Mask, Donkey Kong Country, and Chips Ahoy! commercials. Enough with the big band sound, this isn't 1994 anymore! That's why the Dawson/Combs/whichever theme music for Family Feud, while good in my opinion, feels out of place to me when I hear it in a newer FF episode—a new one was put in place when they revived it with Louie Anderson and that's the one I expect to hear in first-run now. You like that cheap techno garbage? Give me "The Feud" anyday and the 1994 version proves that it can be remade in a different style. I'm not saying that it's not doable—look at Jeopardy!. Yep and "Changing Keys" should recieve a similar rearrangement. Indeed, Wheel is about the same as The Price Is Right -- the good, recognizable cues get thrown out in favor of generic crap because 1) cheap and 2) trying to be "hip". The unfortunate truth. They need to ditch the generic crap because it isn't hip. Look at Family Feud when they used all that "hip" techno garbage called "music" those were some of the worse years in that show's history.

Yeah, the big band sound is out of style right now. I agree with you there.
As for the Family Feud theme, I never said I liked the theme used starting with the Anderson revival. I only said that's what I expect to hear now. Whether it should be changed is best left to a topic in Mr. Irrelevant, though.

The set just got updated about a year ago. So, probably not going to happen. A large portion of the current set dates back to Season 21 when it premiered, even though the scoreboards were different and the puzzleboard had CRT monitors.

My suggestion for a new theme next season is have "Happy Wheels" re-arranged by Chris Bell Music, who rearranged the Jeopardy theme a few years ago.

^ This thread hasn't been posted in since January; there was no need to bump it. We frown upon that here. No kidding, my first two posts were on older threads and I got the usual scolding for that. I was like I was told 3 months was the limit, but I got another just a few weeks ago for daring to post on a thread that was like a month old. Again While I could understand where this is coming from, I think the cheeks need to loosen just a bit. Some discussions that are more than 4 weeks old are still relevant.

The bump in question, however, wasn't really relevant...this thread was about theme music, and the bump was about the set. Not the same thing.
There is no explicit rule here about thread-bumping...if someone has new information they wish to bring to the discussion at hand, by all means post it. Likewise, if a thread is about a particular future event and said event has since happened, post as well. Mario's bump on the lottery promotion thread, for example, is perfectly acceptable. Otherwise, please don't force people to remember why they wrote what they wrote. That's why thread bumping is frowned upon. Start a new thread if you need to.
Likewise, since there is already a thread about Season 30 suggestions, and the theme is being discussed there, I see no reason to have two threads on the same subject.
