The media is really blowing this out of proportion. So what? He's not the only game show host to do this...At least maybe this will draw more viewers to those who say they haven't watched Wheel since 1999? I don't like how the stories are adding to Wheel's reputation of being dull and boring (even though the show can be nowadays sometimes) as a whole. I REALLY wish Pat didn't close his Twitter. I'd love to hear his real-time input on all of this...

^Putting Chuck's "little Swedish girl" comment (June 20, 1980) in a new light, aren't you?

That YT video was most likely a joke, because he knew the camera would be focused on him. I LOL'd when I saw that on TV.

I can't believe these people...Way to judge a TV show you never actually saw outside of fail clips on YouTube... Do you hink all the media outbreak is helping Wheel's reputation as a TV icon? Or is it making it worse for the wrong reasons?...

Ignore them, Mario... they don't matter, they're just useless idiots who have nothing to do but attack things that are better than themselves.
And while I realized I basically called out almost everyone on Facebook Twitter, I also spelled "THAN" wrong.

I find this story is being blown out of preportion also. It was done on a very casual and laid back sports topic show which asks all of its guest silly questions like that. He knows that it wasn't a good thing to do and he hasn't done for many years.

I'm kind of surprised, but wasn't a lot of the Game show hosts drunk, high, or addicted to caffeine and cigarettes in the 70's and 80's? He's not the only game show host to do this... No he's not. Bob Barker, Alex Trebek, and the casts of Hollywood Squares and Match Game come to mind. I don't like how the stories are adding to Wheel's reputation of being dull and boring (even though the show can be nowadays sometimes) as a whole. I don't like it either, but it's Sony's fault. The show has gotten quite a bit more boring and got that "it's a show for old folks" reputation in the last 12+ years. Funny considering it was popular with college students (and everyone else) in the 80's. I don't think it has so much to do with the hosts being sober, but rather the show resting on its laurels. I REALLY wish Pat didn't close his Twitter. I'd love to hear his real-time input on all of this... Agreed.

^Completely agree with the bit about it being Sony's fault. It's also the over-reliance on cardboard, the lack of any prize variety, the lack of returning players, and an insistence on editing out spontaneous moments like Margie's stumbling a few days ago. Didn't Alex Trebek admit in his finale for High Rollers that he hosted that episode drunk? I thought he said he wasn't drunk and just did that schtick because it was the last show. If Pat and Vanna were drunk on the show, it'd explain a few weird moments regarding him. May also explain that Zontar comment at Susan's outfit in 1982. Personally, I never noticed any sort of drunkenness from either. Byrnes, however, was pretty obvious -- I'm surprised he made it through two tapings without going anywhere past directly yelling at a contestant for wanting to solve for $300.

It's also the over-reliance on cardboard, the lack of any prize variety, the lack of returning players, and an insistence on editing out spontaneous moments like Margie's stumbling a few days ago. Don't forget the music. I honestly think the classic music added something to the show. The lack of Prize variety is another killer. I understand why Harry Friedman did it, but as a viewer it gets OLD fast. When Nancy Jones was producing the studio was filled with prizes, now it has a car and the rest is filled with clutter from the theme of the week. And let us not forget that since 1996 we can't even have a regular show. Every week has to have some stupid theme to it like "California Adventures", "Spa Fantasy Week", or Garden Gnome week, etc... Yeah, there's some more, but I don't feel like mentioning it at the moment. If Pat and Vanna were drunk on the show, it'd explain a few weird moments regarding him. May also explain that Zontar comment at Susan's outfit in 1982. It also may explain Pat on the turntable acting like a manikin on one show, Pat kissing Vanna on his last show, and Pat almost tripping on Charlie O's first show back.

Do you Think all the media outbreak is helping Wheel's reputation as a TV icon? Or is it making it worse for the wrong reasons?... Wow, talk about people who don't know good television. Honestly, Wheel is one of the only good shows left on TV. But what would they know, anyway? They're probably drunk all the time! Removed image from quote.

Don't forget the music. I honestly think the classic music added something to the show. Totally forgot the music...which, considering the cues they've used in the past decade, is pretty easy. The lack of Prize variety is another killer. I understand why Harry Friedman did it I honestly have no idea why Friedman decided to limit things to trips, cars, and cash. Care to elaborate? since 1996 we can't even have a regular show. Every week has to have some stupid theme to it Pretty sure there were still un-themed weeks in 1998 or so. Honestly, Wheel is one of the only good shows left on TV. Are you talking about recent episodes? Because if so, I fail to see how -- I see a stale show that's resting on its laurels and just doesn't care anymore. Most of the time, the live audience is bored!==== As for Pat, the news media outlets are blowing this out of proportion. CBS News did a short thing on this, although they didn't actually use any audio from said interview.

The New York Post had an article on the story that took up most of the page with a picture of Pat, Vanna, and the board, Photoshopped to say "WE WUZ SLOSHED". It said that Pat and Vanna drank "frequently", even though I don't believe Pat ever used that kind of word in the interview...

In all the episodes I've seen from early in Pat's tenure, I couldn't tell much of anything out of the ordinary (and certainly not to the proportion of Edd's hosting style, namely "No! You only have $300! You can't solve yet!") On the other hand, it might explain why Pat, during his first week, told a contestant to spin again after buying a dud vowel, only for Nancy Jones to tell him that it was the next player's turn.
Totally agree... with the show as it is today, when you put all the cardboard they use from every round (1/2 Car, Mystery Wedges, MDW, Gift Tag, and Wild Card) together, you've got one loaded Wheel. Might as well rename the show "Wheel of Cardboard"! Pat's explanation for the lack of returning players on Sony Rewards doesn't make much sense at all. And don't get me started on how they air episodes and weeks out of order (especially the Secret Santa Sweepstakes shows being totally scrambled from the dates they were originally set to air.) Or how they occasionally edit in spins from different episodes.
Not to mention numerous puzzles that go along with the Theme Week. And don't get me started on how Prize Puzzles are so obviously themed to the trip that's being awarded to the contestants solving those puzzles-especially with the 'GLEAMING WHITE SAND BEACHES' disaster a few years back.

I'm willing to chalk that incident up to it being Pat's second, third, or fourth day (I'm pretty sure Wheel didn't air January 1, 1982 due to the Tournament of Roses parade).

Totally forgot the music...which, considering the cues they've used in the past decade, is pretty easy. Obviously "Changing Keys" needs to come back, but some of the classic prize cues should get updates as well. It would be nice to hear an updated "Struttin' on Sunset" or "Nightwalk" used for prize discriptions and the 2007 "Buzzwords" used for a car win cue. Not all of the cues they use today are bad. The jazzy ones are ok, but the rest of them are either outdated big band cues or cheap stock music. And that 2007 opening theme is just awful. Even though some cues aren't too bad, they're still kind of forgetable overall. I honestly have no idea why Friedman decided to limit things to trips, cars, and cash. Care to elaborate? Because everyone, besides the very wealthy, is hurting in this economy. More contestants may come on the show because they need money or a new car. If you look at say Let's Make a Deal, the big deal of the day could be a boat, an RV, or a jet ski. Yes, it makes good television, but what the heck is someone living in an apartment going to do with something like that besides sell it. And it possibly might be a real hassle to get rid of it. So why go through that, just give a car or cash. And who could really afford a luxury any vacation nowdays. As a viewer, I don't really care for the prize puzzle (just call it vaction prize and get it over with) method because most of the time the person who wins it ends up winning the game. I kind of think the Surprise wedge could be brought back and played for the surprize vacation, but if they did that there's a chance no one would end up winning the trip. Pretty sure there were still un-themed weeks in 1998 or so. Really? I thought the only non-theme week since 1996 was the 2nd week of Season 14, the last with the 1986-1996 templates. You're not refering to those "America's Game" shows are you? Are you talking about recent episodes? Because if so, I fail to see how -- I see a stale show that's resting on its laurels and just doesn't care anymore. Unfortunately this is true. Harry Friedman might be nicer to the staff, but the presentation under has watch has become stale. Most notably with the lack of "Changing Keys". The only reason wheel is still #1 in syndication is because there's no real competition besides Celebrity Gossip shows, Family Guy and Seinfeld reruns. All of those can also be found on cable. Wheel has no incentive than to just rest on it laurels.
