There's this full crediit roll from 1988 (Season 5 because of the Neon 25K sign) on Youtube and it has Charlie O'Donnell speaking. Did Charlie really fill in during Season 5 or was he dubbed in during Summer and/or Saturday reruns? I thought Charlie returned in 1989.

Well, the last frame of the video has a graphic reading "Get Ready For The 90's", so I guess that recording was from a rerun in 1989. I know Saturday reruns were around in some markets at that time.

Someone added to my wiki that he also filled in on daytime around May 1988. Given how close it was to Jack's death, I have every reason to believe that Charlie indeed filled in on both versions for a few weeks.

I sense a bit of ego there, TPH...just a bit. I know you created it, but "my wiki" doesn't seem...right...to me; "the History Wiki", sure, but... Anyway, that "someone" was 68.63.217.221 -- a pretty significant contributor, mostly to the daytime and nighttime timelines, and possibly my favorite IP-address editor. Some of the info I couldn't verify (and still can't!), although I certainly found some interesting stuff while trying. Among those I could confirm were the single Wheel 2000 edit (old ATGS posts) and Jack leaving the show early ( this obituary states that he left "several months ago"). Did Charlie really fill in during Season 5 or was he dubbed in during Summer and/or Saturday reruns? Jack wasn't dubbed over on Summer reruns in 1988. He did the first few weeks of replacement fee plugs, after which Pat and Vanna took over through early September. (Charlie also filled in for Jack for two weeks in late 1985.) Personally, I'd take the clip at face value -- Charlie on a May/June 1988 nighttime show that may have reran in '89.

When I first saw that Jack left the show "several months" prior to his death, it was claimed at the time that he announced first-run nighttime to the end of Season 5 (since debunked). I thought at that time the Season 5 finale was somehow taped before the May 1988 daytime episodes.
The replacement fee plugs for the first of the summer 1988 reruns were likely recorded well before Jack left, and then edited into the episodes slated to be rerun at the beginning of summer just before their re-airing. Then, when Jack's fee plugs were all used up, Pat and Vanna recorded the plugs for the rest of the summer.
I'm not aware of any dub-fest during this period like the one in Season 28 (or if Charlie was dubbed over M.G. for Summer 1989 reruns, like with Jim Thornton getting dubbed over the other guest announcers last summer.)

Given how close it was to Jack's death, I have every reason to believe that Charlie indeed filled in on both versions for a few weeks. But how accurate is that? Because currently I see that the wiki says Season 5 ended on June 3, but it actually ended on June 17. If Charlie did actually fill-in then why was it just for a few weeks? Wouldn't Charlie have filled in for Jack for the rest of Season 5 or was there another announcer(s) that filled in as well? Charlie also filled in for Jack for two weeks in late 1985. I never knew that, I thought Jack Clark never missed a taping. Was Jack's absence explained on these shows? Is there anyone that has a copy of these shows?

But how accurate is that? Because currently I see that the wiki says Season 5 ended on June 3, but it actually ended on June 17. And how do you know this? I counted the number of weeks when someone suggested the OP's video link came from May, and I got 38 weeks before that of May 30-June 3.(EDIT: Somebody put 9/7 on the timeline as the beginning of Season 5, despite 9/14 being reached by some at Invision {including me} last March primarily through GSN saying #796 was the first BMOC show. It only bumps the season finale to June 10, though.)If Charlie did actually fill-in then why was it just for a few weeks? Wouldn't Charlie have filled in for Jack for the rest of Season 5 or was there another announcer(s) that filled in as well? Charlie likely filled in for the rest of Season 5, but no longer due to contractual obligations with Barris Industries (and hence why M.G. Kelly did about five months). I never knew that, I thought Jack Clark never missed a taping. Was Jack's absence explained on these shows? Is there anyone that has a copy of these shows? Not sure on the latter two. All I know is that Jack had contractual obligations with Bob Stewart for Pyramid, likely the then-new $100,000.

And how do you know this? I counted the number of weeks when someone suggested the OP's video link came from May, and I got 38 weeks before that of May 30-June 3. Originally, each season had two week of reruns before the season ended. The first week of reruns would occur during either christmas or new years week and the second week of reruns occured on the week after Easter.
