Nighttime Wheel of Fortune (from Radio City Music Hall) - Original Airdate 11/17/1988 (Season 6)
For the first time, we're on the road in New York City, with over $328,000 in prizes available to be won! Your announcer for this session is Don Pardo, your hosts (as always) are Pat Sajak and Vanna White, and this is WHEEL! OF! FORTUNE!
Let's meet the trio of contestants playing tonight in the Big Apple:
Amy Baque, the hometown favorite (having lived in New York four years) and fabric designer
Bill Demisi, a computer marketing representative from Bloomfield, Michigan
Mary Lou Chamberlain-Hield, an operatic actress hailing from Wilmette, Illinois
ROUND 1:
$1,000 is the top dollar for the first round. We're playing for cash, as we have done for about a year now.

PERSON
Amy drew the number 1, but that quickly turns into the number 3 as LOSE A TURN comes up right away. Bill has a lot better luck - after hitting the FREE SPIN wedge right away, his next spin drops into the last peg of $1,000... too bad there's no T. Pat does not ask for his Free Spin so we go to Mary Lou, who rings up the first cash of the evening with two $200 N's before losing a turn herself. Amy's spin power puts her right in the same trouble spot, so it's Bill again hitting Free Spin followed by a dud S on $400. Again Pat just goes on to Mary Lou, who gets a pair of R's on $700, then buys pairs of E's and I's. She passes her turn with the P though, giving it to Amy for a third chance. She just avoids Lose a Turn for a third time, getting all the remaining consonants but one...

PHRASE
Bill holds two Free Spins, but he won't pick up any more - the off-model $300 is on the wheel. He opens with a T on the nearby blue $300, followed by the logical H (one) and E (a pair). He goes on a little bit of a run, though never hitting a number bigger than $300, before missing with the M. He cashes in one Free Spin to continue his turn, and despite a close shave with Lose a Turn, he finishes the round for us:
B O R D E R S / O N
T H E
R I D I C _ _ O _ S
PHRASE
Having two Free Spins BORDERS ON THE RIDICULOUS, but handing one in nets Bill $2,850!
Sole Dud: M (Bill - FS #1 used)
Amy: $1,350
Bill: $2,850 + Free Spin
Mary Lou: she starts the next round
ROUND 3:
$3,500 and $1,000 headline the wheel in the third round.

SAME NAME
Same Name is a new category this season, and Mary Lou gets first crack at it. She spins up $800 for the trio of N's, following them with the obvious D and A (just one of each). She narrowly stays out of Bankrupt next time by, but repeats the D she put on the board already. Amy can't get a Y, nor Bill a T, but he has his other Free Spin which he uses for a second chance. Good time to use it - his next attempt is a $3,500 S! After adding an R, he misses with the M, so Mary Lou gets another shot at this one... or she could just lose her turn. Amy's spin power does her in again, giving control back to Bill. After getting a few consonants and buying the last vowels (two U's)...

C _ O R U S / L I N E

Bill solves PUNCH AND CHORUS LINE for $4,250 more!
Duds: Y (Amy), T (Bill - FS #2 used), M (Bill)

ROUND 4 (Partial Speedup):
$5,000 and $1,500 provide some real star power, but they pale in comparison to this prize...
Van Cleef & Arpels offer his/hers gold and diamond watches that retail for a whopping $15,300!

PEOPLE
Amy's knocked out quickly with the N on $350, which was the only chance anyone got at those watches since the Final Spin bells are sounding. Pat's spin flies by that prize to $250, which will be the value of all consonants till the end of the game. Bill starts, and Mary Lou gets an inkling about at least part of the solution on her second turn when she lights three L's...
