Oh, Nancy Jones...why did you let Renae say that? Were you in agreement? Could you see the Wheel of today back then? In any case, Renae was spot-on -- about 15 years too early, but still...

I wonder if this incident is what led to Alan Levine (the then-CEO of Sony Pictures) calling Harry Friedman telling him the show feels it needs to be taken in a new direction, and to Nancy's dismissal?
The show sure has gone in a new direction since this incident happened. If only this incident was much more recently... I can just imagine what would come out of it. (If I were to assert anything now, such an incident would probably be edited out for broadcast now.)

Yeah, for some time I thought this was the catalyst for Nancy's departure and Friedman's hiring (the latter announced in early June; an article I found on it made no mention of Nancy).
This is not to say that Harry hasn't made good decisions, because he certainly has -- the show's online reach is very large thanks to him, Jim Thornton was easily the best choice from Season 28, and the touch-based puzzle board cut down on studio time and stopdowns (they likely made the switch to flat-panel monitors to reduce size/weight and simply look better). Some of Friedman's decisions have been spot-on, no-argument choices.
But when the man screws up (Vanna for a "Day", no returning players, the whole brouhaha of Season 28, a general feeling of "We don't care anymore.")...boy, does he ever.

What do you think the show would be like now if Nancy were still producer? Would the show still even be here?
