We've just received word about a rather surprising announcement for Wheel's upcoming 30th season. Starting in said season, the show will be adding a BANKRUPT card to the Bonus Wheel. Here's what Executive Producer Harry Friedman had to say...
"Ever since the debut of the Bonus Wheel, we've been thinking of all kinds of different things we could do with it, like a $1 million envelope. We obviously couldn't make one available outright, so that's how the Million-Dollar Wedge was born. I'm sure some of our viewers remember Big Money Week earlier this season where we added cards of 65, 75, and $85,000. Nobody even hit any of those, but we think it's a fun tradition that we'll continue to do for the appropriately-themed week. We love our themed weeks so much, as you can probably tell. We have so much fun coming up with puzzles to fit our theme. Getting back to the Bonus Wheel, we're deciding to add even more excitement and suspense than ever to 'Wheel of Fortune' with our new Bankrupt card. Now, Bonus Round losses won't seem as painful. We can't wait for that awesome moment where someone will miss a tough bonus puzzle and find that they would have lost it all had they won. We hope everyone tunes in for our 30th season this September!"

LOL, this has to be an April Fools Day joke. This can't be real. What this is saying is that if someone, for example, racks up +$50,000, solves the bonus puzzle, and reveals the Bankrupt card, they blow everything. Is that how it works?

Three things went through my mind, almost simultaneously, upon seeing this: 1) "This is an April Fool's joke. Friedman isn't this stupid, but it seems like something he'd do." 2) "This is an April Fool's joke, but Friedman will see this and actually add it to the show. Because he's cheap, and would probably replace all those $30,000 envelopes." 3) "This isn't an April Fool's joke." What this is saying is that if someone, for example, racks up +$50,000, solves the bonus puzzle, and reveals the Bankrupt card, they blow everything. Is that how it works? Precisely. As winning on BANKRUPT would make even the most bored audiences revolt, every single contestant would intentionally lose the Bonus Round out of sheer terror that all their work could be negated, resulting in a win-win for Harry. Which is why part of me thinks this might not be a joke.

I somehow doubt Friedman, despite all the questionable changes he's made, would pull off something like this, Dan.

I've had disturbing thoughts about Bankrupt being a bonus round envelope for a long time, and you can bet everyone including myself hopes this is just an April Fools joke.

Fear not, guys, this was just Mario's April Fool's Day joke.
With that, since it is now April 4th, this thread is no longer relevant.

And also, I just want to clarify that I wasn't poking fun at Harry Friedman. I just needed somebody to fake-quote.
