As we all know, Wheel retired returning champions in 1996 in favor of a weekly tournament called "Friday Finals" (with slightly modified rules), which was then retired soon after. Many agree that some form of returning champions and/or tournaments should be used. What do you think would work with today's show? This is what I was thinking. The "sixth show weeks" have always seemed awkward because of random set changes, plus it's pretty unfair for those playing on the particular episodes because the theme strategies for the original week go to waste, plus any special gameplay elements related to the week are reverted, one of which actually affected the game (see 4/26 show). So as I was thinking, what if they used the sixth show weeks as "Friday Finals" where the top three scorers from each week appears on the sixth show. This way, they can get away with keeping the set and not necessarily have to whitewash the original week's theme. Pat will give a mini-recap for each player, plus short highlight clips if necessary (though I guess this might take up too much time leading to full R4 Speed-Ups 95% of the time). Gameplay plays the same except for a few small changes: - Vowels cost $500.
- Jackpot starts at $10,000 (as it did during Friday Finals).
- No Kia.
- No Prize Puzzles. Instead, add a $10K+ Prize wedge to replace the R1-2 Prize.
So, what are your ideas for what could be done for returning contestants or tournaments?

I see your point about the sixth-show weeks throwing their players off-base, but I think a simpler solution to the problems they present would be to just give them the ax altogether. If you want to replace them with something special, reintroduce tournaments and use something like Jeopardy's tournament format instead of the pseudo-Friday Finals.
I also don't think it's fair to up the cost of a vowel for sixth-episode players; they should cost the same for everybody.

The sixth-episode players would be the returning players, though. They all won big already, so nobody really loses. It was just an idea. (Besides, we all know vowels should have been more than $500 by now going by inflation from 1975. )

My point about the vowels is that they should not cost more for sixth-episode players than for regular-week players. Feel free to raise the price—it'll do wonders for your budget—but if you do, do it for everybody.

I believe the Returning Champions should work well for today's WHEEL OF FORTUNE.
