Hello! Came across this forum and wanted some input. Like most of you I am a die hard WOF fan and have been watching the show since I was old enough to understand what TV means. My dream has always been to get on the show and it looks like I finally have my chance.
I attended a wheelmobile event at Morongo in February 2012. Luckily, my name got called! I acted like a total fool on stage and even solved the puzzle. Fast forward 2 weeks, and I received an email that I was chosen to audition. So I went to audition in March. I used up all my energy and was told right then and there that I was selected to be a stand-by the VERY NEXT DAY!
WOO HOO!
The next day I went to the studio and was a stand-by all day. It was an awesome experience, and I got to practice on the wheel and watch the shows live. So amazing.
Before I left, one of the coordinators told me that they would be going on hiatus soon and that I would be called back to be on the show in June/July.
Of course, the wait is absolutely KILLING me. Any advice from other standbys on the show? When does taping of Season 30 begin? When can I realistically expect to be called back?
Any advice/input is greatly appreciated!

Welcome, wheelbaby.  The reason that the show was going on hiatus was because they were finishing up tapings for the season in LA. They'll start taping for Season 30 in mid-July. Though I've never auditioned for the show yet (that will change later this month  ), I would think that you would get the call in June. What themed week were you in the studio for? Good luck when you do get to play! |

Hi Mario!
Thanks for the input. I was there on a Thursday and they taped all 5 episodes of the Exotic Far East. The 6th show they taped was for "America's Game" which is going to air in June sometime.
Why do you think I will get the call in June? How do you know they will start taping in mid-July? How do you know all this stuff - you are a Godsend!

Oh, stop.  I've just done a lot of research over the years. I've read from other contestants that they get about a month's notice at most (IIRC) of their appearance, since it's their responsibility to make the trip. I know they'll start taping in mid-July because that's how they always do it these days. Last season began taping on July 14, the second Thursday of July (they almost-always tape on Thursday and Friday), so judging by that pattern, the first taping day for Season 30 will be July 12. |

Interesting info. I literally can't wait. I'm now 29 and turn 30 on July 21. Turning 30 for season 30. This will be the best birthday gift ever!!!!!!!!
I know I sound like a maniac but this has been my lifelong dream. I've never watched and played so much wheel in my life. I have the iPhone app, the iPad app, and bought the Wii just so I could play.

If that's the case, then you picked a great time to get picked. According the show's contestant application, they're looking for people celebrating 30th birthdays or anniversaries. I'm sure you've made Nintendo happy with that purchase. I have the iPhone app, too. If you ever need help practicing, let me know. Same goes for anyone else here with the app. |

I think it's too late for you to let them know that now, but they'll probably notice it based on your information (I can't speak for certain, though). Since you're pretty much guaranteed to appear on the show next season, they might put you on that particular week.

Here's a question for you - based on your knowledge of past tapings and anniversaries, which week will they use for their "30th anniversary week"? Will they do it locally or do you think they'll plan to tape that special week in New York next March?
