We all know that Pat tends to only mention the Wild Card being used in gameplay when the contestants land on one of the big money spaces. However, there are some people who would argue that the Wild Card should be played not depending on if you land on one of those spaces, but on how much money you stand to gain if you use it at that time.
My question is: how much is the Wild Card worth to you in dollars?
In order to answer this question, I think that a few assumptions need to be made:
1. Any cash earned from using the Wild Card will be automatically won, since you know the puzzle and are going to solve right afterwards. 2. You have a large enough lead on your opponents that you believe that you will make it to the bonus round.
I have an answer, but I'd like to see what a few other people have to say first.

Personally, I would only use the WC if I knew the puzzle for sure and I was going to solve after I used it to call a letter in the puzzle with multiple letters. It kills me when people use it to call a letter that isn't there or there is only one occurance.
If I knew without a doubt I was going to the bonus round, I would keep it.

I would definitely use the Wild Card on any top dollar value, as long as I knew a consonant was there for sure. If it was early on and there was no guarantee my next pick would be there, I'd hang on to it.
If I had it and I called a correct letter on $900 or the Mystery Wedge, I would only use it if I knew for certain that my next pick appeared in the puzzle at least four times (and of course, decline the Mystery risk).

I'd use it on $3,500 or more only if there were at least two of the letter I'd call (assuming I already know the puzzle).

^ Read my signature. But I'll be around on a somewhat regular basis (okay, maybe not so regular for me... prior to losing internet I was here every single minute).

You use it the first chance on Big Money, even if there's only singles left. If it gets to R4 and it's a blowout, then might as well use it on 600 or above, but I'm still eh about that in general.
I don't have the stats in front of me right now, but I recently did a stat where I found that the average # of "good" BR calls (non-RSTLNE letters which are non-duds) is 6.15, with median 6 (so I think that means the distribution is skewed to the left slightly, but since these are discrete values I don't think this means much). So calling it 6, and you calling 4 letters before, the WC just looks more and more of a risk in the BR when you forego it on Big Money.
I feel like Pat should be forced to remind people of the $$$, when he doesn't it's fairly maddening.

If it gets to R4 and it's a blowout, then might as well use it on 600 or above. That's a good point... I forgot to mention that. If it was obvious that I wasn't going to win or R4 will be a full Speed-Up, might as well use it while you can to make some more money.
