If you look around on the internet, it seems that Jeopardy! is worth more watching than Wheel of Fortune. Wheel gets blasted for being stale and an "old people's show"; Jeopardy!, on the other hand, is thought of quite positively. A higher-up on another forum I visit got on the show (unfortunately pre-empted here by March Madness ), and I believe the site did something about it. Our family is admittedly more inclined to watch Jeopardy! than Wheel. But a look at the ratings, video game sales, and possibly board game sales reveals that Wheel is actually more popular than Jeopardy!. Some time back, somebody posted a list of the highest-rated shows in syndicated, and only sports had it beat then. Wheel had #2 because they were counting that, while Jeopardy! was #6 or so. Which begs the question: What gives? Why, in the opinion of you guys on this forum, makes Wheel a higher-rated show than Jeopardy! despite the former's shortcomings? Personally, I find Wheel the easier game to play well. Yes, it still helps being knowledgeable in a wide variety of subjects in Wheel of Fortune (I think my "weak" categories in both games boil down to about the same), but you really have to know only the name and how to spell it. Someone who was dozing off in school, which I admit doing to some extent, is not going to do well on Jeopardy!. (My dad's the opposite—he's a poor speller and often has a hard time filling in the letters on Wheel, but he reads a LOT about various subjects, resulting in Jeopardy! being the easier game for him.) Other opinions?

To be blunt, people like to feel smart and watch things that make them feel smart. Pretty much anyone that can read can play WOF and therefore it reaches more people in viewers. Jeopary! on the other hand actually makes me feel like an idiot (and I know I'm not the only one). I never have liked J!, and I know I'm not the only one.
That's why on Family Feud the questions are "Name a person who starred in a movie with Julia Roberts" not "Name a president who served more than one term". I, like many people, know about Julia but have no clue about presidents.
That's the same reason Deal or No Deal was such a huge hit...anyone can pick a number. People like dumb TV. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying WOF is dumb....it's just something that EVERYBODY gets and can do.
