(P.S. Sorry if some details are hazy and/or not accurate, this happened over 5 years ago.)
Since no one had decided to put up a taping experience yet, and I don't want this section to go to waste, I guess I'll be first to talk about it.
I went to a Taping experience on March 24, 2007. It was a blast and I want to do another taping sometime into the future. But before the show and the taping and waiting in line, we start with the ticket getting.
Some time before the taping, I want to say January. I was reading through our Local Newspaper went I saw an ad for Wheel of Fortune and it said they were giving out tickets, we just had to fill out the form that was on the ad, send it, and you got tickets. We had 4 tickets and Me, my Brother, my grandma (Who I showed the Ad to), and My Auntie Brenda. Unfortunately, my brother couldn't go because he was only 7 (5 Months away from his birthday )
We got to the Convention center a couple of hours before the taping began, and the line was long. I'm not quite sure what happened next, but I believe we went into the center, watched some videos in line, and then we got to choose our seats. We ended up getting bleacher seats and they were decent. The wheel watcher Club members sat in rows of chairs, the fact that it was rows of seating made us feel better that we could see the game.
We ended up seeing Two shows and it lasted about 4 hours, from 7 to 11. Before the show they would show the episode number, tape date and air date (It was in May or June) I honestly don't remember much from the shows, the first had an error where Pat's Mic was off when he came out to the set, other than that I only know that in that episode the BR was lost. In the Second Episode, There was an edit where one of the people buzzed in and said the puzzle (even though it was too quiet to tell at first). They edited it by re shooting Tu2 and giving the girl (Yellow and Blue were the two colors in this edit) the puzzle she solved. In the second episode there was also A $6000 speedup, which made a comeback win and she went on to win Her BR.
It was cool seeing the board letters appear on the board, it just appeared. I believe Vanna talked to the audience during a break in the 1st show and the 2nd show. Mostly we just waited for the next round to come and play. I would play along with the people and see if I solved it first. After I would get it, I would whisper it to my grandma (we didn't get in trouble). Before the show we got a ticket that we would need for later. After the episodes someone (Charlie?) called out our ticket numbers for a few prizes they were offering. We didn't win anything, but we were close to winning.
After all the tapings (which are slow, but gameplay goes fast), we get up and leave the center. On the way out we got a Free Spin Pin (magnetic) and a wheel of fortune CD (which included a demo of the 2003 Sony game) which I still have today. We had a blast at the event and we were ready to go home and sleep.
So, I enjoyed the taping. I was glad to have this opportunity to go to a taping (Glad I found the Newspaper ad) and would definitely do it again. I never got to see my episodes on TV though as I was busy those days (Can someone see if they have either of these episodes?). While breaks are long, the taping was worth it. I hope they come back down to San Diego to tape some shows, I'd want my brother to come this time.
Hope you enjoy the report!
