Now the 30th syndicated season is coming up real soon, I did some studying on WOF theme songs played for every season. Here's what I got. 1983 theme was used for the first six seasons, 1989 theme was played for four seasons (that include the 10th season which was used for closing only), 94 theme for three seasons, 97 theme also used for three season, 2000 theme for six seasons, and the current 2006 theme is now up to six seasons. If they continue using 06 theme for the upcoming season 30, then this would stay on the longest than any other Wheel theme. This song would be their 7th season.
Do you think it time for a new theme song on Wheel?
I also forgot 1989 theme was used for five seasons, the 11th season used it for road shows. Thanks for pointed that out.

Technically, there is a 2007 theme that has lasted five seasons. Both need to go, though.

Technically, the 1989 closing theme was used during Season 11 for road shows, not Season 10, if my information is correct.
Yes, a new theme is needed, I think.

The 1989 theme was used in the credits of several Season 10 shows, and was use to open and close Season 11 road shows.

I most certainly do believe that it is time for a new theme song!! The ones they've been playing over the last several years needs to be retired!!

Don't forget the original theme that was used for eight years.

It would be great if they can come up with a theme that WON'T be changed every couple of years.

Don't forget the original theme that was used for eight years. By "original", I assume you mean "Big Wheels"? The producers of WHEEL could dig through their music vault and create a poll on their WHEEL OF FORTUNE website for the viewers to decide which theme song should be played during the 30th Anniversary or they can give Chris Bell Music a call, ask them if they would be willing to compose a rendition of the Original "Changing Keys" composition. Consecutive posts merged.

Those are great ideas! I would love to vote for a theme.

Okay, time for things to be straightened out. Disregarding repeats and the various versions done for road shows (marching bands, lap-steel guitars, etc.), here's the theme order from the beginning to today: * Wheel Of Fortune, by Kay Starr (October 3, 1952-December 24, 1953) Never mind... * Chitty Chitty Bang Bang "instrumental", by Richard M. and Robert B. Sherman (September 1973 {Pilot #1/ Shopper's Bazaar}) * Give It One, by Maynard Ferguson (August 28, 1974 {Pilots #2 and #3/ Wheel Of Fortune}) * Big Wheels, by Alan Thicke (January 6, 1975-August 5, 1983) * Changing Keys "V1", by Merv Griffin (August 8, 1983-approx. September 14, 1984) * Changing Keys "V2", by Merv Griffin (approx. September 17, 1984-June 30, 1989) * Changing Keys "V3", by Merv Griffin (July 17, 1989-June 12, 1992 with some uses through about May 6, 1994 {"opening" rendition debuted sometime between July 21 and August 22, 1989}) * Changing Keys "V4", by Merv Griffin (September 7, 1992-June 17, 1994) * Changing Keys "V5", performed by Mort Lindsey's orchestra (September 5, 1994-June 13, 1997) * Changing Keys "V6", arranged by Steve Kaplan (September 1, 1997-June 2, 2000) * Happy Wheels "V1", by Steve Kaplan (September 4, 2000-May 31, 2002) * Happy Wheels "V2" aka Lip Service To '97, by Steve Kaplan (September 2, 2002-June 9, 2006) * Happy Wheels "V3", by Frankie Blue (September 11, 2006-Present) * Opening Cue, by John Hoke (September 10, 2007-Present) So the longest-reigning theme is Big Wheels at over eight-and-a-half years; if one combines the iterations of Changing Keys and Happy Wheels, those are 17 and 12 years respectively. Hope this clears things up. Also, I used italics here to make the names stand out; don't do this on the Wiki, please.

As much as I prefer Big Wheels as a theme, it's Changing Keys that is really identified the most with Wheel of Fortune, particularly since it was the theme during the golden age where Wheel aired both during the day and at night.
Personally, for the 30th anniversary, I'd like to see Changing Keys back with a nice arrangement that evokes the long history of the piece and the program it represents. But just like how Big Wheels probably won't come back, I doubt Changing Keys returns to the title sequence.

I just hope they don't keep the current themes cues. They have really outlived their time.

I believe the 2000 version of Happy Wheels lasted until 2006 for the opening, while the 2002 version was credits only.

Actually, the two different versions of the theme were both used for the opening. You have to listen closely, but there is a difference in episodes from 2000-2002 and 2002-2006, but it's only slightly different, though.

If you ask me, it should start with Big Wheels, go into Changing Keys and end with Happy Wheels, just to go through the years accordingly.

Here's a thought: What if they played all versions of each theme throughout the whole season? (Well, Big Wheels would make an exception since that was never altered in anyway.) I wonder if that would work.
