As most of you know, Director Mark Corwin has been WOF's main director for the last 13 years. He has done a fine job during most of that time of course, but in recent episodes I've noticed some things about his directing that made a many fans want to question his performance as director.
So I ask, do you think Mark Corwin is ready to retire and there is a new director on the possible horizon?

"Possible horizon"? Yay for stilted talking.

He may not have the final say on what gets edited out (could be wrong of course).

I think Mark Corwin's got quite a few more years to go... as for what gets edited out, I think that's mostly at Harry Friedman's discretion. (We all know how things have been going the past couple of seasons with edits like inserting overhead spin shots from different episodes, removing incidents of contestants picking up wedges off the Wheel that they're not supposed to pick up, calling a vowel on the Wild Card, removing "null" cycles that involve contestants losing cardboard to Bankrupt, stopping tape to fix issues with the video wall, and even dubbing over announcers.)

Sorry for not being as religious a watcher as I used to be. When did someone call a vowel on the Wild Card? Also, in my opinion, if there is a concern about stopping tape to fix problems with the video wall, then get rid of it altogether. I liked the color-coded backdrops better anyway.

During Round 3 of January 17, 2011, a contestant had a Wild Card and tried to use it to call a vowel. He later landed on $3,500 and used it to call six Ns. And I agree on the second part.

He wasn't referring to that. One of the contestant bloggers earlier this season (March 5) mentioned "mixing up the rules of the Wild Card and Free Play".

Stand corrected, then.

Here is another question. What's with all the wide shots of the Puzzleboard? I mean, even though there is small puzzle, we're still seeing wide shots of the board. And that's what we've been seeing for over a decade now. So, what's up with that?

My guess is that the category strip would either blend in with the unused monitors too much or would just feel "unnatural" over the board monitors since it seems like it's meant to be superimposed under the board itself at all times...

The main thing that I would like to see directorial-wise, is the wheel loosened very slightly and that we actually get to see the wheel spinning in the overhead shot. I mean, back in the glory days, we'd sometimes get to see the wheel spin for 4 or 5 seconds before it came to a stop. Now we only see it for about 1 or 2 seconds and we only see it stopping.

But they often have to the cut down the length of the spins to fit in more gameplay time (unless they want to do the Final Spin in Round 3...).

I didn't know that. I should've suspected it though...

It's pretty easy to notice. I remember as far back as around 2004 I would often hear the Wheel spin, and then they would cut to the overhead shot after only about 1.5 seconds, and the Wheel has somehow gone more than all the way around so quickly.
