Someone who works at MSG has been posting some pictures on Instagram as everything is loaded in. Check these out... The Wheel completely stripped, save for one certain wedge which appears to be apart from the templates... The Wheel with the rest of the wedges, but no top dollar... The puzzle board and used-letter board, complete with test Bonus Round picks of XYZU... And the gorgeous set coming together...

Ohhhhh that's an eyeroll.
I was looking for a wide-eyed awe-struck happy face.
Fail.

1. I wonder how the wires under the wheel never get tangled when it spins.
2. How is the wheel itself transported? Is the rim one piece, or is it separate pieces that fit together like a toy train track?
3. What holds the layout together?

The first two shots seem to indicate that the green center is put on top of what looks like a very weathered, battered, and possibly even 1970s-original chroma-key center.
The set as a whole looks to be on a much smaller stage than at Culver City.

I think that is the green center wrapped in plastic. The original 70's one was much greener, and the one used throughout the 90's and early 2000's was more of a light blue. Also, notice there are no flippers. Wonder what that "Heel of Tune" logo is about.

Mario, that's probably a neon-style light shining down from the ceiling. Probably an effect they use, certainly not one that's seen on camera. I recall seeing a similar light of a big arrow at the center of the Wheel pointing to each of us as we were taking our practice spins at Stage 11. That way, we would know where to look when the Wheel was spinning. I do not recall seeing the light being activated when the show was actually taping. BTW, the Bonus Round test puzzle is the same puzzle used as the Bonus Round in dress rehearsal games. If you'd like to know the solution, PM me.

If those aren't the flippers, then what are they?

They're the mechanisms that keep the flippers held up and hold their rubber bands and bearings so they can function. Here's a better picture of the piece taken a few years ago:

That shot is sick! I'm assuming the mechanism is mounted on the rim around the wheel (I can't see the bottom of it too well)?

Looks like the first week really is called simply "NYC". The show posted this picture on Foursquare... Love the subway-style NYC letters! Very creative.

I'm heading off to the first tapings. I probably won't be online for most the day. Can't wait!

Today's tapings were for "Mom's Week", the week of May 6. It's a singles week (not "Mom & Me") with all women. I saw the first three shows. I even got to ask Jim Thornton what the other themes for NY were, and he had no idea. I reminded him of Best Friends Week, but he didn't know the other one (though he joked "Worst Enemies"). All he knew was that it wasn't College Week. Also, Jim said the show is taping in Las Vegas (yes, again) later this year. Yes, it's the same-old Vegas, but this looks like we may be getting back to two locales per season, at least.

Well taping in Vegas would kinda make sense, regardless of the two seasons in a row that they taped there, before that, they had a two season break between Vegas tapings (they had a couple of weeks on the road there in February of 2002, then didn't go back there (I think) until February of 2005, so I really have no complaints about this....
I'm actually coming to America sometime later this year for a cousins' wedding, and hopefully will be able to either catch a taping there or at homebase.

So I know two people who are Best friends taping shows today so I'm guessing a "Best Friends" theme for the shows taping today.

Yes, it was already known that Best Friends Week is taping today. It's just the air dates that are currently unknown, though they're presumably May 13 - 17.
