R2: I knew this with just the T and H. Terrible decision for Margie to go for it. There was also some weird editing after she picked it up. It cut to some weird side angle and the shot of the BANKRUPT graphic was skipped. LaBarron goes from standing up straight to reaching down towards the Wheel. Maybe she said something bad? Kind of ironic. I've always hated the directors' need to show the Bankrupt (and LAT) graphic every single time it's hit, though I never minded it when it was a Mystery Wedge Bankrupt. R3: "PICTURE-SKAY"? Really? If you "came here to win", know the strategies...and the English language, please...I can tell she was nervous and all, but still...Is this the first time Same Letter was used as a PP? Pretty much the only time gratuitousness is acceptable. R4: Very impressive! BR: I thought Kristen still had a decent shot at it if she called M, but it seems like she was just one of those people who was thinking "Just call CDMA. It's bound to work." I got it with just RSTLNE, but I think it would have been better as "Event". The audience was nowhere near as good as yesterday. I wish they actually knew how the Mystery gambles worked so they wouldn't shout "Go for it!" no matter how much is being risked. At first I thought it was nice that there was some reaction to $3500... then I watch Wayoshi's video and hear that it was dubbed in! Same goes for that huge groan after the R3 fail. Could it be any more faker? Audio mixers, please get out of 1994 already... I'm guessing Vietnam's game show winnings laws are VERY different, seeing they give fans away in the BR and all... Something interesting to note about Panama's version, they use the official font for their logo and not SF Fortune Wheel like Turkey. Looks like they managed to get in touch with the right people. Also notice how similar their logo is to the Season 27 logo. This show was definitely interesting. Not entirely in good ways, but quite a crazy episode...

TU1&2: Nice little pattern on #1 makes it quick to get. #2 was kind of long for a toss-up, but it went fast too.
R1: Nice - a non-park Landmark! Plus the featured trip and Jackpot are both won... Kristen is on fire right away!
R2: I got this with the T and H... Margie was definitely expecting THE on that call. She must not have known it on the $3,500 hit - otherwise why call the single and save the R's for $600? Also, that Mystery pickup was a VERY BAD idea with $8,450 already in the bank. This round had great potential, but it's only good for $1,500... sigh.
R3: Tough luck by Labarron to Bankrupt, but he only lost a few hundred after all his buying. The Same Letter goes on a low number again, but it becomes moot when Margie mis-solves. This lets Labarron recover and claim the obligatory Hawaii trip, but no spinning means he's a tripskate (my word for players that solve the PP with little or no cash in the bank but multiple consonants still left on the board).
TU3: Kristen sweeps them... this extends her lead!
R4: WOW! What a solve by Kristen! Another Burke-esque event, even though it was a shorter puzzle than Caitlin's. She locks the game up and has the Wild Card in hand to help her in Bonusland. Labarron ends up with just the trip, while Margie must settle for the Pity Thousand after that mispronunciation mis-solve.
Bonus: I got this with RSTLNE... had the top line right away and then the rest dawned on me as she made her picks. This was set up for a loss I think.
Overall: Only one good player tonight in Kristen, but boy was she good! Based on her play, I rate this show 6/10.

Ooh… ahh… ehh… =|
Let's go in order…
R1 was actual textbook play, which we haven't seen in a bit… also, R1-2 were way too easy for even me tonight to get early. This ended up being a cruise game in the end, and very comfortably…
R2-3… I have to admit, I thought Margie was being smart and saving the Rs for $3500, which her spin pattern was keying in on. Obviously in hindsight this was the complete opposite. Even if she does get Rs on $3500 and that would have hopefully deterred her from risking ~15k, her play suggest she may have dudded later on anyways. But look: she had $9450, and if she knows how the heck to pronounce –ESQUE, she would have overtaken Kristen for the lead, and then who knows if 3k and R4 go the same when it isn't garbage time.
I'll let MarioGS detail the interesting edit – my best theory is that there was some inappropriate audio recorded and it was unsalvageable.
Unlike Caitlin Burke, an insta-solve in a garbage speed-up is a bit more acceptable than PP. It was hard to tell if she knew it point-blank – if she did, I can understand taking the safe T to confirm the puzzle over the Fs and Bs, but it's starting to pain me how much contestants are so inefficient every day.
After we had a good example why the common BR letter choices still aren’t good choices, we get a good example of why any QU- is a big problem for just about every contestant. That was about the easiest QU- BR you could have, but it was still difficult, because certainly the puzzle was still a random THING, and not even really a half-PHRASE. I also think the A was only inserted to trap her and avoid the likely clinching I. The WC had no chance to be useful here.
Vietnam sure has a small Wheel...
I do have to say tonight although the scores will likely be in the 5-6s, this game never had a dull moment, and that's a rarer than rare occurrence nowadays. Even better, the categories were actually one of the best mixes we've had – no PHRASE, no B&A, a Hawaii PP puzzle that was actually high-quality…

Tossups: Nice job by Kristen sweeping the Tossups.
R1: Excellent round for Kristen! I got this when the T's appeared.
R2: TERRIBLE mistake by Margie on her MW decision. She should've solved to secure her cash and hoped to add a trip in order to catch up w/ Kristen.
R3: Well, Margie just screwed things up again w/ her botched pronunciation. I'm gonna stop right there.
R4: Very impressive solve but I think Caitlin's November 4, 2010 is hands-down a true winner.
Bonus Round: Another victim claimed by the QU- portion and our losing streak is still intact. I had that w/ just the RSTLNE.
EPISODE RATING: 6 out of 10

You know, when it comes to notable gooseeggs, there's Valerie's 1996 heartbreak where the only time she got to play was spinning up a Lose A Turn (at least she didn't spin Bankrupt), Rick Robertson's embarrassing bad feeling about this after Caitlyn Burke's one letter solve in November of 2010 and Tony Montoya's shut-out after facing tough competition during Vanna for a Day back in March of 2011 (ending a nearly one month spree without any shut-outs for any players), but then, there was tonight with Margie. My mouth just fell to the floor over this, especially when she mispronounced picturesque.
BTW, in regards to her $9450 risk with the mystery wedge, has this been the biggest amount anyone lost to a Mystery Wedge Bankrupt?

It's possibly the most lost, but it's not the most risked cash-wise. That would most-likely be $9,750 back on 12/1/09, which was also for a Bankrupt.

So here on the west coast, the state of the union republican response ran over into wheel so they just joined wheel already in progress - in the mystery round just before the mystery wedge debacle.
I was in the audience for the taping of this show and it was pretty awful to watch in person. I felt really bad for margie. She was really upset afterwards and did not really deserve that chain of events. I think she did a good job keeping it together for the duration of the game - she knew what was happening and I think she did her best to get through it. I think she was just nervous.
you are right - in R2 they edited out after she picked up the mystery wedge. She was a little too animated and took one too many steps backwards and off the platform. She recovered nicely though. I can understand why they would edit that out.
I distinctly remember people in the audience yelling "no!" when she said she "came here to play"... One thing that I think contributes to the different quality of audience reactions is that most of the audience sits through 3, and maybe even 6 episodes in one day, and there's a lot of downtime between takes and episodes. There's not really anyone to amp up the crowd like at sitcoms with live audiences i've been to. There was an applause sign but it was kind of random as to when it seemed to be on. I know from these 2 episodes so far this week that they definitely add crowd sounds. It sounded much different in person.

Not too bad of an episode, except for Margie. "Picture-skay"? Really?! in R2 they edited out after she picked up the mystery wedge. She was a little too animated and took one too many steps backwards and off the platform. She recovered nicely though. So...Margie didn't yell an obscenity and instead just fell over? I can understand why they would edit that out. It looks a lot like Wheel didn't want to show an honest reaction or spontaneous moment...which, really, doesn't surprise me in the least. Many people in the genre fell over/down, and it got left in the episode as aired -- Password Plus, The Big Showdown, and Aussie Wheel come to mind. It's also the main problem with wanting to massively edit shows to manufacture drama -- in the process, you lose the feeling that anything really could happen; The Price Is Right is a good example of that. As for this episode, it resulted in a pretty sloppy jump cut -- Margie's holding the wedge, then all of a sudden SIDE-SHOT and Pat seemingly dubbed over.

I don't think I've ever seen two big mistakes in two consecutive rounds. Why would Margie risk $9,000 to see if there was $10,000? No common sense in that respect. Then, she blew the prize puzzle with "pictureskay? " How did she pass the audition if she can't even pronounce English words? This mistake might have been caused by her nerves, but come on! She could have won big in both the Mystery Round and the Prize Puzzle Round, but 2 terrible mistakes cost her those victories.

I had a bad feeling Margie would make some kind of mistake on the PP Round after that little delay just before trying to solve the puzzle.
Kristen's one of our best puzzle solvers this season, IMO! It's a shame the QU got her in the BR. I knew the bonus puzzle w/ the RSTLNE.

Joacen, to be fair, "picturesque" is probably not a word Margie hears often as an administrative assistant. If I saw that word on the board, not having heard it spoken before, I would probably pronounce it in a similar way. My opinion here is that Wheel could easily come up with puzzles that don't use filler words few people have heard of, let alone use in regular conversation.
Also, I don't think we should be adding the $1,000 per letter to the total when we discuss Mystery gambles here. Margie only had $8,450 in her bank when the Bankrupt wedge was picked up, so that was what was risked and lost. The other $1,000 was never hers, since she declined the bribe.

There should be nothing "too animated" to force an edit. What, Wheel doesn't want the audience to know the contestant area has steps?
I'm fairly annoyed by this.

I'm pretty sure she's seen the "-esque" ending before and I would be just completely amazed if she hasn't. That being said she deserved the chump change pity money. Another thing... Are the Wheel puzzle writers getting hyphen happy. I don't ever recall coffee table being hyphenated ever. There's been many times in the past few seasons when I've seen unnecessary hyphens. Either way, CB eat your heart out, even though I despise all the attention she received after it happened.

^ Who's CB? If it's someone very obvious, feel free to give me the honorary headbang. I don't think I've ever seen two big mistakes in two consecutive rounds. Why would Margie risk $9,000 to see if there was $10,000? No common sense in that respect. She wasn't risking $9,000, she was risking $8,450. Keep in mind that the $1,000 is only yours if you don't risk it. Then, she blew the prize puzzle with "pictureskay? " How did she pass the audition if she can't even pronounce English words? What I say here is probably the truth... most smart contestants are not chosen. You'd have a better shot at passing the auditions if you do what contestants today do. Playing conservatively and act as if you aren't a regular viewer. (which I can tell the majority of contestants aren't) Joacen, to be fair, "picturesque" is probably not a word Margie hears often as an administrative assistant. She had to have heard the word somewhere before... All in all, this was a very interesting episode...

This was definitely an interesting one, but some things... I'm very pleased for getting R2 so early. I think Margie knew the puzzle, but didn't know how to pronounce PICTURESQUE. If I were up there, I MIGHT'VE gotten the BR, and here's why: -I knew A...MOMENT with RSTLNE, so I would've avoided O, which was less likely to be in the second word, whereas I and U were more likely. A I would've avoided all together. -With that said, I probably would've still said M just to confirm if it was MOMENT. The Wild Card really wasn't going to be of much use here. Ah well. Actually, Scott...I used my compendium to check all the Landmark puzzles this season...we've had 13 so far (including this week)...only two of them have PARK in them.

Which is a good thing, since in the recent seasons, Landmark usually meant a national park, with rare exception. It's nice to see that become the exception rather than the rule.

tsh10, thanks a lot for your input, and welcome. Wow, editing just a small stumble out? What was the big deal? Maybe they figured she already had it bad enough throughout the episode and didn't want to embarass her any further. But one of the reasons why Wheel is becoming a bit stale lately is because they're often removing all these hilarious and spontaneous moments, like when a contestant picked up the Free Play wedge. I bet if they did show Margie stumbling, she probably would have been on Ellen. There's really nobody warming up the crowd? Not even Jim Thorton? Did they have music playing or anything when you guys were loaded in? I know they do that at tapings of Family Feud and The Price is Right, which have VERY lively audiences (sometimes too lively). If not, that's a terrible thing they're missing out on. If the producers get so mad when people don't clap during the game, then how about making them WANT to clap... I knew for a while that they add pre-recording cheering at certain points, as well as "awww"s after losses sometimes. I really wonder what Wheel has done to their audience practices in the past few years. From around 1996-2003, they always sounded happy to be there. Now, they're basically just there to clap. On some shows, it makes it feel like they're better off not taping in front of an audience when they're not on the road since they don't really do anything... Was there anything else edited out of the show that you remember? Please feel free to share you feedback on the other shows that you watched, too.

Was there some sort of stopdown when Margie stumbled off the back of the podium? If so, that would explain the edit...though, either way, they really should have just reshot that whole part to avoid such a choppy cut. Did Rich DiPirro direct this episode or something? tsh, thanks for your input. I hope to see you around these parts more...we need more like you! Feel free to give a full taping report detailing your experiences in our "Buying Your Time" forum. CB = Caitlyn Burke Let's not do this...especially when CB is a type of radio. Thanks.
