Here's where we will discuss the British Version of Wheel that lasted from 1988 to 2001, and to kick this topic off, we have an episode from Christmastime 2001. This episode feautres a white Bankrupt (same color as the one on the American 1995 Christmas ornament), a Miss A Turn space (similar name to the one used on the first three NES Wheel versions along with the Game Boy version except with an "A"), and the strange, unique spot marked 500 Gamble. If only we could see how this really worked.
Videos removed- they've been removed from YT.

It would've been interesting to see how that 500 Gamble worked, but it's still a fun episode to see.

Ah, well if it isn't you! Glad to see you here! Yeah, it really would have been nice. If there's a British Wheel fan who knows how it worked, I'd love for him to tell us about it. Above all, Wikipedia's article about that version could surely use that info, not to mention another pic from me. I do have an idea, I'll upload that, and see what happens from there. BTW, how about I showcase my British Wheel artwork here? This is the round three wheel from 1988. I do not know the layouts from the first two rounds at this point. The round one layout from 1992. I don't know the round two and three layouts, but since the value layouts were constant from this point on, I have a feeling about where the second Bankrupt and the other two 1000 point spaces would have occupied. The round one wheel from 1998 to about 2000. Round 2 with a second Bankrupt and second 1000 point space. Round 3 wheel with third 1000 point space. Note values are doubled from this point on. And here's the round 1 layout from 2001. Rounds 2 and 3 will come soon.

Unfortunately I never got to see a 2001 episode of UK Wheel [being a Brit] owing to it being on during the daytime schedule of a weekday [11am UK time], not to mention the 2001 series only lasted 6 weeks before cancellation.

It's all right, Sam. Hopefully someone will help us out somehow.
Now apart from an episode that shows us how the 500 Gamble space worked as well as an episode just before that spot made its debut, I also want to see an episode from 1988. There is indeed the round three wheel, but the round one wheel looks quite different. If you look closely, you'll see a yellow wedge worth 350 points, a value I haven't seen on British Wheel since.

I did remember seeing Bradley Walsh host the UK Version of Wheel before gaining popularity as the host of The Chase on ITV.

I'd certainly love to see that. By the way, who wants to see an episode of British Wheel from early 1993? The uploader believed it to be from 1990 or 1991, but I know it's 1993 by its Roman numerals at the end.

Remember this episode, the one where you couldn't buy vowels?
A 1989 Series 2 episode was uploaded earlier today, and Campbell did mention the rule about buying vowels. Is it possible that Campbell never mentioned vowel buying in the above video because he assumed people knew about it at that point?
And another question. Do you think Sony would go after uploaded episodes of Aussie or UK Wheel?

And another question. Do you think Sony would go after uploaded episodes of Aussie or UK Wheel? It's plausible, especially for newer episodes (since I don't think Grundy has the rights to non-US Wheel anymore), but precedent seems to be that it's the channels airing foreign Wheel versions that take them down.

Some of the videos taken down specifically say "This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Sony Pictures Entertainment", confirming that Sony is also targeting Australian and UK episodes. I said what's going on, but I'm leaving it at that.

I don't know why they are doing that, but they don't do reruns on TVs

I heard the British channel Challenge had been doing reruns recently, but I don't know if they still are. BTW, there's a good reason why I'm bumping this back up. Before Caitlyn Burke, you had this contestant.

Another British Wheel episode from 1991 has surfaced.
BTW, for those who want to know the font used for the categories and credit rolls, it's Robur. Even so, the capital J that is used on the show is like the lowercase j only without the dots above it.

Someone over at DeviantArt came across this episode for me. A few interesting things to note. First off, some of the special spaces have been moved around a bit. Second, the gentleman in the yellow podium had appeared on the Australian version of the show, solved some puzzles, and won a few prizes. How will he fare here in the UK? Third, the 500 Gamble spot sees some action.

Correction on the first thing to note: the whole Wheel layout was reversed. That, along with the fact that the puzzle board was restyled a bit removing the side trilons, make me believe that this is among the final episodes of British Wheel.

It's close to the end (copyright date is 2001, which is when the show ended), but not quite: it's got almost everything the final days had, except the host (John Leslie was replaced by Paul Hendy) and the dopey "That's me!" host and hostess intros. That said, I didn't think this era was an era -- I'd thought John left when Jenny Powell did, and they cheapened the set and graphics when Hendy took over.
...unless they brought John back to replace Hendy...

It's possible, or he may have temporarily filled in for Hendy. Now the big thing I wanted to discuss was the Gamble wedge. I've been waiting like - What? - seven years just to see how that thing worked. From the looks of it, it's kind of like a combination of the American Express wedge and the Polish Mystery wedges. If that's the case, it's certainly a predecessor of those elements. When you land on it, you have a choice to make. One, simply go for 500 points per letter. Two, gamble your round score. In either case you have to call a letter. If you gamble your points and call an incorrect letter, it's a Bankrupt. If you gamble your points and call a correct letter, your score is increased. How it's increased, I don't know, but here's what I know. Joe gambled 250, got a letter that appeared once and his score increased to 1500. Terry gambled no points, got a letter that again appeared once, and her score increased to 2000. Maybe it's random? Possibly increased to a random multiple of 500?

I Don't think it is random, but more like Round x 500 (Round 3 = 3 x 500) or it could be number of times landed on the wedge x 500 But that is only a guess

That is possible. Anyway, here's an episode from August of 2000, uploaded by one of the contestants. Now, I must add there are a couple strict rules when it comes to solving. One if there are only vowels left, you must solve even if you have enough points to buy a vowel. Two, there's no house minimum whatsoever. If you solve with no points, you get no points, not that it would matter much on this episode to say the least.

And some Wheel UK episodes would have been markedly different under US scoring rules come to think of it, if not over half the ones I've seen, though I suppose "If it ain't broke", don't fix it springs to mind!
