I know Golden-Road.Net has had a lot of connections with TPTB. But do those connections in any way compromise one's chances as a contestant?
For instance, Gavazzi has a ton of info on the timeline, which he built entirely by himself. Could someone from the show look at his timeline and say "He knows too much about the show, we can't let him on"? (Also, didn't a lot of the timeline info come because someone had access to backstage records or something?)
I ask this because one of the users on the WOF timeline pitche me the idea of trying to find a way to contact one of the higher-ups on the show to see if they could help in any way. Now since I created the wiki, and I've been trying to get on Wheel for a while, I don't want to run the risk of "Oh, you know too much about the show, we can't let you on."
But my question is, is that even a risk in the first place?

(Also, didn't a lot of the timeline info come because someone had access to backstage records or something?) Yeah, especially on the early years. Steve made it a point to say it wasn't "Sally" (ClockGameJohn) or Roger Dobkowitz. Subsequent info came from Roger, including his personal game records. The fact that none of the History Wiki info comes from backstage records or somesuch (that I know of) is actually pretty astonishing. I ask this because one of the users on the WOF timeline pitche me the idea of trying to find a way to contact one of the higher-ups on the show to see if they could help in any way. The thing is, Roger cared for those at Golden-Road, going so far as to make Friday game lineups to combat their Friday Prediction Game (and once made a lineup where the initials were THE DOB). Wheel, on the other hand, I've seen no indication they know of us outside of Tommy Hall, who (apologies to Mr. Hall) is only a graphics artist rather than a decision-maker. The only former staffer who may be able to help is Nancy Jones, but she's peacefully retired. Sure, contact the head honchos at Wheel. Just be polite and not condescending or stupid about it. Now since I created the wiki, and I've been trying to get on Wheel for a while, I don't want to run the risk of "Oh, you know too much about the show, we can't let you on." But my question is, is that even a risk in the first place? My instinct says no, but this is the same braintrust that dubbed over Charlie, thought two rounds mid-show was a day, enjoys using crappy Trip Puzzles, and thinks lifetime bans are the greatest thing ever...so I can honestly see it going either way.

Steve's comment on Golden Road is the best:

As the user who pitched TenPoundHammer the idea to begin with, I seriously think maybe if one of us does send a fairly polite, professional request to Nancy Jones, she might actually be able to assist... Whether she'd WANT TO is a whole other kettle of fish...
