I have to say I'm very surprised. I was preparing for retirement at the end of S31, and I think J! superfans thought Alex was definitely done.

I thought the end for them would be around 2014 as well.
Shocking note, Johnny Gilbert will be 92 years old in 2016...

Not surprised on Pat, he's still only in his mid-60s, he can still host for quite a few years.
Alex IS very surprising, however.

Pat and Vanna--not surprised at all. They've still got what it takes to stay on for a good while longer.
Alex--I'm very shocked! I had read an article a while ago somewhere that said it was fixing to retire. And, since he recently had heart problems and other health related incidents, I thought he was nearing the end of his J! career. Kudos to him for wanting to stick with it for another 4 years!

This is quite a big surprise to hear that Alex Trebek will be hosting until season 32 for America's Favorite Quiz Show.

Not surprised on Alex at all compared to the rest of you all.
The man is 71 and has been through injuries and health issues before. He's a strong man. If this stuff bothered him that much, he would probably do so.

I'm also surprised that Alex renewed his contract because we've heard him talk publicly several times about retiring or not. I think we can all agree that retirement is on his mind. But I think he may also be having some separation anxiety too. He wants to do it yet I don't think he's as ready as he thinks. It wouldn't surprise me if this was his final contract renewal though.
As for Pat & Vanna I think retirement is also on Pat's mind but he said that they would both retire at the same time. While this is only pure speculation I don't think Vanna is ready to leave despite it being on Pat's mind so I personally think he is only staying around for her. At the same time he's probably thought (Alex too) "What's another 4 years? I only tape the show 4 days a month."
I think we can all agree that Alex may retire before Pat & Vanna. Yet I'm also curious if all 3 may retire at the same time. Would it be wise for that to happen?

Pat and Vanna are younger than Alex is, being respectively 65, 55, and 72. Alex will likely be the first to go, followed by Pat and Vanna together (my guess is after one or two more contract renewals). I don't think Vanna retiring at the same time as Pat is wise.
Edit: I just realized that the daytime premiere was roughly six weeks before Vanna was old enough to be a contestant. We all know the specific date, so that's another point in favor of Pat and Vanna staying after Alex leaves.

It's pretty much confirmed, via a pact, that Vanna will retire when Pat does.
