I'm not sure if this is the right board to post on but......I was called to audition when I'm visiting L.A. I'm very excited! I can't believe I got the call! I'm pretty good at solving puzzles but I'm not the best at toss-ups. I know they do many of those at the audition so I want to work on improving. Do any of you have any tips on solving them? For example, do you focus on one word first? Or do you dart all over wherever the letter appears? I would appreciate any tips you have for my practice.

Depends on the puzzle. If I'm seeing On the Map, I want to work out the state first, and because each state only has so many cities. There's also the element of theming. Take into consideration what theme you're on, and that likely will be a large hint, either something about said theme, or a phrase you'd say about said theme. Also to know if the blanks equal the same letters as a sports team, or someone's name. Recognizing that, say, SAN DIEGO CHARGERS, is 3/5/8 letters per word can make you familiar with such a pattern. This applies to nearly any PROPER NAME, though the occasional THING and PLACE, too. Also, play the mobile/console games. Put the CPU on as hard as you can, and that's good practice that I did before my audition, and many players have before theirs. Last but not least, for a super challenge, try DPG. It's kind of like a freeze-framed Toss-Up that will be much harder than anything you see in-audition or an actual Toss-Up. The game was created to help with solving the 16 quiz puzzles you get in the audition. Honestly, that's what I think the point of the quiz is these days, to be like mini-toss ups. DPG will overprep you for both this and nasty Bonus Rounds.

Thank you for the advice! I'm not very familiar with app games etc. and ran an internet search for DPG but couldn't find what you are talking about. Can you be more specific on the name or where I can find it? Thanks again! I just want to be as prepared as possible!

DPG is the Daily Puzzle Game, something we do every day on this forum. No need to go elsewhere for that!

Do search engines find members-only sections on forums? Maybe that's why DPG wasn't visible. The compendium of puzzles used is available to the public though.

Do search engines find members-only sections on forums? No, because Google's bots are unable to find it, since they can't, you know, actually log in.

^ There is the written test that has partially filled in puzzles, or freeze-framed Toss-Ups as Prizes called them.

There's no toss ups as in you're not given a buzzer and compete with other people, but eybyon and Prizes have described it well. The written test is basically Vanna tapping the puzzle board during the toss-up round and your T.V. freezing up after a couple seconds. Difference is, if there's an "A" in the puzzle or another letter, all of that letter is being displayed in the puzzle (so maybe a freeze-framed bonus round might be a better analogy except letters besides RSTLNE may be displayed).

I'd call it a freeze-framed Speed-Up.

I know I haven't posted on here in forever, but I'll be attending the Jacksonville Wheelmobile event tomorrow. This is actually the my second time going to such an event. I went to Orlando back in 2008, got called up and solved my puzzle (TABLE OF CONTENTS). I got a letter a few weeks later asking me to come to the Orlando Marriott for another audition, which included the written exam. I passed that but never got a call back. Maybe I'll be luckier this time. Fingers crossed!

Hello, Does anyone know when the Wheelmobile will be in Northern California in 2015 or 2016? Thank you!

It's been a year and a bit since they last were, so they should be due for it pretty soon. However, nothing's been announced as far as we currently know, so all I can say is be patient and watch this space.
(Also, I removed the quoted post. No need to quote that entire thing just to ask a question.)

Hi, Angela. The tour for 2015 is coming to an end if it hasn't done so already, but I'd check back here around February-March when next year's tour should start since the first events of the year are usually around California. As always, we'll announce future events as soon as we find out about them.

Congratulations on getting on stage and solving in Jacksonville, Bobby. So after driving four hours to Jacksonville a couple of weeks ago, now I find out they're coming to my hometown of Jupiter on the 12th and about 25 minutes away in Stuart on the 13th. I'll be there and hopefully I'll get a shot at a closer to home second audition.

Crazy weather all around. I broke two umbrellas in two days because of sudden winds. Is it wind over there too?
