Embedding (must have missed this one while scouring YouTube for international Wheel): Seems they had an increasing cash jackpot for the Bonus Round. The Aussie version also did that from 2000-05. And here's something I don't get: British Wheel keeps the same tune from start to finish (with a slight remix in 1999 or 2000), Aussie Wheel keeps the same tune from start to finish (minus Tony Barber's first five weeks), American Wheel changes its theme twice when they don't feel like paying royalties anymore to whoever composed the last theme. (I also hate uploaders who feel they need to spoil the outcome in the video title and/or description. )

Yeah I don't get that either. I feel like the current version is so disconnected from themes past. My favourite was from 2002-2006. It was fun and sassy and I felt like it was more representative of what wheel was at the time. This new version is just... odd. I don't get the same great vibes from it as I have with previous themes.

I have been looking as well as waiting for an episode of British Wheel from this era, and I'm very happy to know the wait is finally over. Here are some things I noticed when it came to gameplay here as opposed to later on.
This was the only era of British Wheel to have a 350-point space.
Instead of just starting every round with a trivia question, every turn started with a 50/50 trivia question.
No point-doubling occurred whatsoever, let alone round 3 onwards.

I hated the trivia questions for every new turn. It made the game so slow and obnoxious.

I agree with you on that.
BTW, one more thing I forgot to mention. I noticed that during this time, the two additional 1000-points spaces were added wherever the producers pleased. I'm uncertain if this was the case for the additional Bankrupt.
Check this 1988 intro clip, and you'll see what I mean.
The layout shown on the revised UK Wheel board game is the same as the 1989 layout. The 1988 is more than likely the reverse of the 1989 layout.
The round three layout shown at 0:46 in the 1988 clip is entirely different. It may possibly be a pilot or first-episode layout.

I agree with thiswheel13 about the trivia questions slowing the game down. I understand that British game shows of the time were held to stricter standards than their American counterparts (resulting in cheaper prizes and less of a luck factor), but I think ITV messed with this show too much.

Holy crap is this botched -- not only is there a 50/50 question every time the Wheel changes hands, but anybody notice that nobody bought any vowels? According to the uploader, that rule didn't exist.
The dafuqery is immense.
(To be fair, Wheel fixed both problems by 1994, and may have fixed them in '91 given they didn't air at all in 1990.)

Ugh. Why do British game shows have to be so... comatose? Everyone's so lethargic sounding. No energy at all.

It's just their way of doing things. By the way, before I continue, I have made a British Wheel thread in the World Tour with Wheel section, so if the mods want to merge this with the thread I created, please go ahead.
Anyway, I'd think about having a word with the uploader of that 1989 episode about buying vowels because in this Christmas 1988 episode of British Wheel, there was one instance of a vowel being bought. If I recall correctly, it happens later in the game just to let you know.
And in the 90s and until British Wheel's end in 2001, vowels could be bought.

I really liked this episode. I wish there were more like it around. I'm glad the questions didn't take up a lot of time in this episode like the one I posted. I do have to say this. They have one of the best solve cues out of all versions created globally. That and the Aussie solve cue.
