Lousy Trip Puzzle is lousy. Nice job in the BR though.

Just so you know, the BR car's the same one w/ this particular theme at the start of last season, a Honda CR-V.
Nice BR solve w/ one second to go by Tala after the C came up!
Score: 7

R2: I'm sick of them wasting time by spelling out AND. They used the ampersand to stop the obvious calls for about 20 years, why go back now, especially when A, N, and D were in the rest of the puzzle anyway? Loved how Tala decided to go once more for the P's. She would have gotten the $7500 bonus if Dan hadn't gotten it earlier. R3: Great trip. Horrible puzzle... R4: This should have been Same Letter. Sounds too contrived under Things. Excellent and strategic Z call by Bonnie. BR: I knew PUBLIC from the start but eventually got SPEAKING. Pat really had the faith in her that I didn't. Nice job. The master tape (assuming the clip was taken from it) of Pat's first show really seems to be deteriorating. The 1976 episode broadcast on GSN was better quality than that... So is the 1/2 Car alternating between Fiesta/Smart every week? Nothing very eventful before the BR, but that's not really a bad thing here. No bad calls, and no unclaimed multiples, plus I believe this was the first time this season where someone completely filled in a puzzle. Rating: 4/5

I'm glad there are solo contestants for this week instead of family parings.
Opening: Great choice of clip showing Pat's first episode as "Wheel" host.
Tossup #1: I got it the same time as Tala though I wasn't sure about that last word.
R1: Good job by Dan. Tough luck for Bonnie.
R2: Looks like Tala was definitely a gambler when she completed the entire puzzle! Shame that the sole dummy vowel got Dan.
R3: Man, Bonnie just couldn't get a break here. Nicely done by Tala and great to see a locale outside of North America.
R4: As Pat said, this was up Bonnie's alley when she called those Z's.
Bonus Round: I only had the second word at the start, but I got it once the C came up. I didn't think Tala was going to get it due to the limited hlep, but that was a great win!
EPISODE RATING: 7 out of 10

Toss-Ups: Couldn't get much more generic than tonight's first two puzzles... R1: I got this with just the T's on the wildly-premature Jackpot hit. Said Jackpot didn't get time to climb very high, but $2,800 and half a Smart Car (although how you can divide one of those in half we'll never know ) is better than the minimum. R2: Another half Smart Car hits the podiums as Tala picks up a tidy $5,200. In contrast to the previous round, this one went all the way out. R3: The Wild Card finds its way out of play as Bonnie is slapped with her second Bankrupt of the night, followed by one of the two car halves. Tala eventually gives up on the car, but she grabs $3,900 more and the India (India!) trip. R4: The full speedup came just a tad early tonight, and Pat's spin fell a fair bit short of its usual area, hitting the $800 normally under the MDW. I got this as the D's came up, and so did Bonnie, who was able to boost her total a bit to end the game. Bonus: I was able to RSTLNE this, and a P or K would have helped greatly. But Tala still solves it for $30K! Overall: Not bad, but I wish we had given away a Smart Car. Still, a solid 7/10.

I would think that T2 belongs under Phrase more then Person.
Dan had an almost perfect rotation around the wheel. If he didn't call that I in R2, he might have gone a long way.
I've never heard of "support hose" before.
I understand the promotion of the trip to India with the movie, but giving away such an expensive prize seems like overkill.
Early speed up was necessary for that extra long Maxwell House plug with Vanna digging in the garden at the end.
Really nice solve by Tala - too bad she ended up with the minimum.

A solid episode overall with decent payouts every round even without the Prize Puzzle trip factored in. And it's topped off with an excellent BR solve! (She deserves more than the $30K for that, though...)

I was reading this recap, wondering if Pat made any reference to once working with a guy named Dan Miller, when I saw the Trip Puzzle and thought how stupid it was. And then I saw this: ...dafuq kind of Phrase is that? My thoughts exactly. Opening: Great choice of clip showing Pat's first episode as "Wheel" host. But why? And why did they show Vanna's official debut? It's supposed to be the 30th Anniversary of nighttime, so why show clips (that they've shown before, specifically during Season 25) from prior to the nighttime premiere? The master tape (assuming the clip was taken from it) of Pat's first show really seems to be deteriorating. The 1976 episode broadcast on GSN was better quality than that... I might be wrong on this, but it may be that June 7, 1976 is a master tape while December 28, 1981 is an OB copy. I think they've only shown two 1980s clips from the "Changing Keys" era, and nothing between '89 and about '96. Why do they have a phobia of paying royalties to Merv (look at the undated clip; the prize cue is almost nonexistent), when it's obvious they'll pay Alan Thicke? Anyway... I've never heard of "support hose" before. A special kind of not-sheer pantyhose that helps those who have poor blood circulation in their legs. My mother wears them.

R2: That was a good round for Tala!
R3: Ugh, back-to-back Bankrupts! And I think this is the first time I've ever seen Wheel offer a trip to India as a prize!
R4: I knew this just before Bonnie called the Z's. Nice solve by Bonnie, too!
BR: I struggled a bit with this one even after Tala's picks. Glad to see she was able to solve it in time! I was getting worried about her for a moment.
Overall, I thought this was a pretty good episode!

It's supposed to be the 30th Anniversary of nighttime, so why show clips (that they've shown before, specifically during Season 25) from prior to the nighttime premiere? Since we're in the early stages of this current season, it would make sense to use the debuts of both hosts (especially that clip of Pat) to showcase all the years that this show has been on the air especially daytime.

This is Dan here from this show - I followed the link from a comment on my blog entry, listed above.
I was definitely feeling the full revolution spin, which is why I went for an addition spin in Round 1 (getting the 2 L's in rolling).
After I got the bankrupt in R3, I wondered if perhaps they adjusted the tension of the wheel in between rounds, but after reviewing the DVR, I don't think that's the case. The Bankrupt I landed on was 2 wedges past a full revolution, so I think that I just got "excited" and spun it slightly harder.
Definitely bummed about the I call in R2. Though for the record, last night I looked it up and there are only 195 7-letter words with an O in the 5th position, and 121 of them have Is, and only 89 have Us :-). I knew there had to be another vowel in that word and went with I since it's much more common than U. In hindsight, I probably should have just spun and gone with a consonant. I can't remember if I knew the first word ( _A_DEN = GARDEN) or maybe I just got in the vowel-buying "zone"
Thanks for the kind words in the thread and I'd be happy to answer any questions anyone might have.

No problem, Dan. Thanks for joining. I forgot to point this out in my comment on your blog, but it was definitely smart to keep your spin power in mind, which is something many contestants overlook, though yours was quite consistent and close to a full revolution, so it was obviously easier for you. Nonetheless, great work, and enjoy your winnings!

If they wanted to "showcase all the years that this show has been on the air especially daytime", they could show a clip of the 1975 premiere; heck, I'd even settle for the KILL THE VAMPIRE mis-solve (6/7/76) and Chuck's comment about Linda "making money off of other people's mistakes"!

2 things on the recap (dunno if they are important or not)
* Madeira is misspelled as my hometown * In Round 2, you're missing my 2 Es between the D and O
